  • Another DQ6 noob Q, pls --

I have 2x2GB Corsair C4 memory, which is not on the DQ6 QVL -- my first thought is that this shouldn't be a problem, but I thought I'd check in to see whether anyone has a difference experience with this memory's compatibility with the DQ6.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I use Mushkin, and have several different pairs and combinations not on the list as well so I think you will be fine, as long as that memory has a 1.8 jedec profile, which most all ram does today. You need ram that is around 1.8v or will default back to 1.8 to boot with, which most will anyhow. You can if you wanted to be really sure about it look around or ask this at that Corsair forums

    Code:

But I think it will be fine anyway.....Do you have another stick just incase to get in the bios to set the voltage to the corsair voltages? If so then you for sure will be fine, but

As I said I think most all ram will default to 1.8 if needed by boards until you go in a set it manually anyway, that is jedec standard that ram makers have to follow nowadays

The "Supported" memory list only means that specific brand has been fully tested by gigabyte, not that it is the only ram that works for certain boards

Thanks very much for the info -- I do already have a pair of Corsair 1GB sticks that are on the QVL, so I have a backup plan in place :)

Well, can't think of anymore Q's, so I guess it's time to go pull the trigger at NewEgg!

Yeah you should be fine then. If the 2x2 sticks dont boot up, put in the 1gb ones just to get setup then you can set the voltages and such for the larger sticks once you are all setup.

Now I am jealous! I want one of these boards, but sadly cannot afford it.

        Enjoy!

          I'll try :D

All I need now is a cpu. I'm one of the thousands waiting around for E8400's to reappear. I noticed in my other thread you referred to Xeons -- is there something out there besides an E8400 I should be considering?

E3110 is same as E8400, and they are in stock at a few places

            Tankguys.com 234 retail/199 OEM
            microcenter.com

            Code:
            http://www.google.com/products?q=E3110

And several others as well, just depends on where you want to shop. If you want a xeon instead of waiting for the 8400
