Re: Gigabyte 8800GTX and Vista - Video hardware caused windows to stop working correc

It prolly isn't going to help you much but I thought I'd mention that I'm currently running an 8800GTS on Vista Home Premium X64 and very happy. I did install the hot fixes when I installed Vista. Currently downloading SP1 for Vista but won't get a chance to install / test it untill tomorrow evening at the earliest.

Re: Gigabyte 8800GTX and Vista - Video hardware caused windows to stop working correc

Thanks all for the additional links.. I'll have to find some time to test the hotfixes...
I think I'll be able to try this today evening...
I wanted to try SP1 after I read PrairieDawg's post above, but when I did a google search, the first link reported was of someone complaining about SP1 issues...

One of the users said that it screwed up all nVidia drivers *ears stand up*...
I think I'll wait till SP1 is stable before downloading...
Also M$ suggests waiting till Mid-Apr before allowing vista to auto download SP1 rather than doing it now... I guess, I'll wait for a few days, SP1 is just fresh....
Besides, I'm travelling for the next 10 days, so will not be able to tinker with the machine till I get back..... Thanks for all your help guys.... Will be back after my holidays and do some testing.....

Re: Gigabyte 8800GTX and Vista - Video hardware caused windows to stop working correc

It might be wise to wait awhile before installing SP1 but I seldom let common sense get in my way. :-) I installed SP1 on my system tonight and haven't noticed any real change so far. I haven't had time for benchmarking yet but did play Hellgate London long enough to assure myself that the video card still worked properly. If you are already having problems then SP1 may just fix them .... if not then you're prolly not in any worse shape than you were before.

Well SP 1 is here and I tried one of the hotfixes also.
Now the card is a bit more stable, so it doesn't crash every time I open the game.
It still does this once every while. Whatever they did it's been able to resolve this upto an extent, the display driver is a bit stable now, but still the issue is there.

Yes, I would also have RMA's the card, and looked for a model with no known issues if you can
