• X38-DS4 what is this "Fine CPU Clock Ratio"

After updating to f3 bios I noticed a new setting.
It adds the .5 on to my E8400's X9 multi, but does it actually work? I did try some superpi test with, and with out the .5 multi with no difference at all.

CPU Clock Ratio [9X]
Fine CPU Clock Ratio [+0.5]
CPU Frequency 3.80Ghz (400 X 9.5)
CPU Host Clock Control [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency [400]

The 9.5 multi doesn't show in everest or cpu-z.

Do you have EIST, Speedstep, C1E, and TM1 disabled? And are you using the newest CPU-z and everest?

I don't have the TM1 option, but do have TM2. I disabled that and already had EIST and C1E disabled.
I have Everest Ultimate Edition 4.20.1170 and version 1.44 of CPUz.
I believe they are latest versions.

It shows the correct speeds in bios when i add the .5 multi making it 9.5 X 400 =3800mhz.
Other than the bios there's nothing to show that it works.

What does system properties, everest, and CPU-z actually say?

When you updated to the newest BIOS, did you "Load Optimized Defaults" first, then go back and set all your settings again? If not you may need to do that, since you are supposed to with each BIOS update

Thanks for the replies:)

Optimized Defaults were loaded. That's when I discovered the CPU Fine Clock option. The bios only says that it's a memory performance update. lol

It's strange that you don't see anyone posting in any forums about having the .5 multiplier being added.
Is being able to add to the cpu's multiplier a new thing?

Here's a screenshot of my clock speeds. I do have it at 9.5 X 400. It doesn't show though, as u can see.
It's not a big deal really, I'd just like to know if anyone else has it working or not.

Well it is working, there is a few pages here I have posted links to previous beta bios's and users had them working, so I am not sure what is up with yours. Are you sure you are enabling this option in the bios and not just picking a selection without enabling it? Are you using Control + F1, cause I kow some bios's look like you dont need to anymore, but without doing so still leaves some things unseen

Here see p35-ds4 beta F12b image of working .5 multi, and this was long ago, and beta so it for sure works now that it is final

Hey it could be a strap issue, try higher like 404 FSB or so and see if that fixes it. If not we will just have to wait and see what Janus has to say when he gets in

It works :) Just can't go higher than the 8.5 X. I should have known that.

I have it set 8.5 X 425.

Thanks for your help!

Well....yeah! Ya should have known that!

I assume you can do 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5

Was you just trying to do something different or what was the problem?

Re: X38-DS4 what is this "Fine CPU Clock Ratio"

I was setting it at 9.5 multi, and since the E8400 is locked at 9 X it will not let me. It will work in bios but on boot it would just go back to the 9.
The 8.5 and lower work just fine.
