  • Re: Mobo voltage settings for PC8500 Corsair memory

"alright!" Great to here that. I use the bios for all changes if it's in there. The bios is the most reliable way to get your system where it should be. It is also good way to tweak the timings on your memory, and raise the clock ratio, and frequencies, for a stable overclock. I like the advanced feature when you first enter bios If you do not find the settings you want in the Main Menu or a submenu, press Ctrl+F1 at the same time to access more advanced options. Then go to Intellegent tweaker you will then see dram timmings selectable. You can change it from auto to manual and adjust the timings to speed up the memory. Lower is faster. You should find out what Corsair recomends your specific memory timings to be set to and make the neccessary changes to get that memory up to speed. The auto values in your bios are the jedec values for fail safe. You should adjust them up a little. Download cpuz or cpuid and check the memory tabs It's also a good utility for seeing your cpu vcore and frequencies

I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3P motherboard that I have been using for about 6 months. The USB ports on the back panel have stopped working. They show up in device manager as working. How can I get these to work again. I reinstalled all drivers.

        Hello Ron Marsico

I dont know, have you tried removing the board from the case. To be sure you have no shorts from the backing plate ect...?
Your best option is to buy external usb ports or the ones you hook up to a pci access panel.

          Hello,

I was checking some Bios Setup differences that my board has, compared to newer ones...

I own GA-MA790X-DS4 and noticed that compared to GA-MA790X-UD4(P) and other AM2+/AM3 boards there are some BIOS options that i don't have :

CPU-NB VID Voltage, HTT Voltage, HTR Voltage and so on...

I don't know which ones are vital for getting a stable overclock on a Phenom II 940BE, but these are missing and instead i have the following option :

          Memory Controller Voltage

with only options of undervolting from the normal value : -0.0125,....-0.05....

My first question is what this option does...

My second question is whether the other ones missing from my board's BIOS are chipset dependable or are just left out by BIOS programmers and if in the future they can be added...

If i need to make this question in a new thread please inform me.

          Thank you

System voltage control must be on manual not auto. Your other options may need to have auto disabled as well.

I own the DS4, not the UD4. I have bios version F6...F7 version updates only AGESA version for X3 Phenom support.

Ctrl + F1 does not reveal any other voltage options. The only options i have are :

Cpu, Memory Controller (only minus) , DDR2, NB, SB Voltage (see pics)

              ---->
What exactly is meant by "Memory Controller Voltage" ? I guess it means the IMC, but the minus values are with reference to DDR2 Voltage or CPU Voltage ?

with my system I spend a lot of hours in game servers for my work, I've noticed that after a couple hours that I'm getting black blotches all over the screen that flash..

this has happened with many different drivers from the 182 to the newest out.

                  System Specs..

                    • Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R, Windows XP and AHCI

I am about to change my motherboard to a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R and reinstall the OS (Windows XP SP2) on to a SATA drive.

                      I wish to install 4 x SATA 2 drives, 2 x hot-swappable eSATA and 1 x IDE DVD writer.

Note: At some stage in the future I may wish to change the DVD-writer to SATA and I may wish to add another HDD and reconfigure the data HDDs as RAID.

The Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R has six yellow connectors [SATA2_0....SATA2_5], two purple GSATA connectors [GSATA2_0, GSATA2_1] and a green IDE connector.

I was going to mechanically connect my SATA drives as follows:
                      SATA2_0.......XP Boot drive
                      SATA2_1.......Data drive 1
                      SATA2_2.......Data drive 2
                      SATA2_3.......Data drive 3
SATA2_4.......Leave vacant for future RAID HDD
SATA2_5.......Leave vacant for future DVD writer
                      GSATA2_0......eSATA connection
                      GSATA2_1......eSATA connection
                      IDE...........DVD writer

Is the above physical arrangment OK?

How do I set up the SATA ports in the BIOS for correct operation and best performance?

My choice of drivers seems to be
                      (a) Intel ICH9RICH10R Pre-install Driver (F6 during XP setup)
                      (b) Intel ICH9RICH10R SATA RAID Driver
                      (c) Motherboard SATA GB SATA2RAID

Do I install all three? They are all highlighted for XP at the Gigabyte website.

Yes It's ok as long as they are as SATA-IDE, but not SATA-RAID
If I want to create RAID sometime in the future, should I pre-install (F6) the drivers before XP now with the RAID option selected in the BIOS "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" setting, or doesn't it make a difference?

It depends on what you want? You have 2 controllers (Intel ICH10R) and (Intel ICH10).
You cannot use the same controller to IDE and RAID. example if I wanted to install 4 SATA IDE devices I would use the yellow connectors but then I would only have 2 for RAID the purple connectors. If I wanted 4 SATA RAID devices. I would then use the yellow ones for RAID. Then I would only have 2 SATA for IDE. In any case you must go into your bios or CMOS setup, and set it up as (SATA legacy IDE) or (SATA-RAID) Which controller you use for which. "example" page-52 of the manual.

If it were me with Windows I would set them all to IDE and put HD's on each controller and software RAID This way you have the best solution for sata dvd's and adding data from other HD's

GSATA2_0/1 (SATA 3Gb/s Connectors, Controlled by GIGABYTE SATA2, Purple)
The SATA connectors conform to SATA 3Gb/s standard and are compatible with SATA 1.5Gb/s
standard. Each SATA connector supports a single SATA device. The GIGABYTE SATA2 controller
supports RAID 0 and RAID 1. Refer to Chapter 5, "Configuring SATA Hard Drive(s)," for instructions

Thanks very much for your reply.

It depends on what you want?
                              I want:

                              (a) The SATA drives to operate in IDE mode or AHCI mode but not RAID.

                              (b) To not have to reinstall the OS if I choose to configure the RAID at some time in the future.

So my question is: what option should I select in the BIOS "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" setting when I pre-install the drivers?

If it were me with Windows I would set them all to IDE
If I did that, I couldn't use the eSATA ports to hot swap drives.

I appreciate all the links and have taken a look at them but I'm not sure that they answer my question.

You would have to reinstall the OS if you ever wanted to use RAID, you can't just install the driver and not create a RAID Array now.

So for now, you can either set IDE or AHCI. IDE would not need any preinstall drivers, and AHCI would only need them if you are using XP. Vista will install it's own AHCI Driver

Since you do want to use eSATA you can install the OS Drive on the Intel ports anyway you like, then set the Gigabyte ports to AHCI and within the OS install the Gigabyte RAID/AHCI Driver-program and you would be good to go.
