  • procedure for flashing bios in ASUS Z87 deluxe motherboard (not 'dual' model)

I am incapable of flashing a bios update to my ASUS motherboard. The system is new and as yet I have been unable to install the OS. I therefore, have disconnected my SSD and DV read/writer. I have built over a dozen PCs for personal use. I am a user who started computing in the mid 80s using DOS. The current system has a new Z87 Deluxe MB purchased in 2013 (unused) After the bios update I hope to install windows 8.1 OEM. The hardware I use will be LianLi case, Corsair HX750 PS, 4 sticks GSkill DDR3 2400 8gig ram, Intel 4770 haswell i7, 4-TB WD black HDD at raid 10 (for storage), LG Blu-Ray/DVD R/W,, Noctua air cooling, PNY quad K4000 nvida . Most of the hardware was purchased in 2013 when I had the money but not the time for assembly.

I have gone to the Z87 Deluxe ASUS' support site and downloaded various bios in an attempt to update. I cannot get EZ flash 2 to see and then update my bios.

Let's start with a clean slate assuming that I am at ASUS' web site at the support Z87 deluxe entry point. To start with what OS do I select having not installed any as of yet?

    Thank you,

    HI psient1
Windows 8 or the one you will be using is fine. In the bios utilities is the a Bupdater? You'll need to use it with the newer bios I'm pretty sure. So you will have the new bios, the bupdater, make a new folder on the desk top install the bupdater and the bios file. You then need to run the bupdater while in windows with the bios file, now your bios file is ready. You need a bootable jump drive> put the bios file on it>boot from the jump drive. Here's a video.

This video gives a brief tutorial on updating the BIOS on the ASUS P8Z77-V and similar motherboards.Update 09/16/13 - BIOS v. 2104 is out********************...

      Thanks!

I have now updated. I found a file with the *.cap extension. Downloaded it to a USB stick and stuck it into the special usb port on the motherboard. I then used the flash2 utility. worked fine!
