help troubleshooting X550ca laptop?

Asus X550ca laptop, Win 8. After pressing power button to turn on, I get the Asus splash screen and message "preparing automatic repair". After a few minutes, get message "diagnosing your PC". It will stay in this state forever -will never finish diagnosing. Any ideas how to troubleshoot?
