A new asus monitor is coming out in the new year, the VX 24 AH. It is 24 inch IPS 2560X1440 and has HDMI and D-SUB inputs. I presume that the HDMI will be 1.4 or 2 spec. Amongst the graphics cards that I have is a passively cooled Asus gt 610 1gb, it has an hdmi port and the specs say 2560X1600 from the digital output. The pc will be used for editing photo's and not gaming. I can't find any reference to which hdmi output specification the graphics card has, any advice would be appreciated.

Since HDMI is a digital output, it should be 2560 x 1600.
