  • C2550D4I server no video / bios.

    Hello,

After working for several months I came home today to my NAS being down and not powering on. No hardware / firmware changes were made, so very odd.

    Here's my hardware:

At first I thought it might be power supply, but I'm able to see the power LED on the MB and can log into the IPMI web interface.

    Things I have tried:
    • Remove all drives / power, reconnect only MB power.
    • Remove / re-seat ram.
    • Remove all but one or two sticks of memory.
    • Remove battery, wait 1 minute then re-insert and re-connect power.
    • Update BCM firmware though the UI.

When I connect the power cable to the supply the fan spins shortly, as the power led lights up. But the machine won't boot when pressing the power button, or trying to power on through the web interface. Nothing shows up in the Remote Control console. And I can't access the BIOS.

I see messages like the following in the System Log:
    • kernel: Root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up.
    • kernel: VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy.
    • kernel: I2C1: Master-Xfer failed. Bus busy
    • kernel: ERROR: I2C1: BUS recovery did not succeed

Not sure how to resolve or if I need to RMA. :(

Did you figure anything out? I have the exact same issue on my C2550D4I.

The only thing that I haven't tried that you did was updating the BCM firmware.

My warning system log has been spammed with:
kernel: I2C1: Master-Xfer failed. Bus busy
kernel: ERROR: I2C1: BUS recovery did not succeed

When I noticed my system wasn't responding I checked the IPMI interface and saw that the cpu temp was -123C. I shut it down via Immediate shutdown as orderly shutdown didn't work. I haven't been able to power it on since then.

I've done an RMA for the board as recommended by ASRock.
