X99 4/3.1 versus 6/3.1

these are the only usb 3.1 x99-type MOBOs.
I see 2x usb 3.1 on 4/3.1 but only one on 6/3.1
so are the usb-slots the only difference? 8 versus 6 usb 3.0 on 6/3.1
our pc-assembler has 4/3.1 beside the expensive extreme 11.
i have alive-dual esata2(3 pcs) and its rocksolid. winxp running 4gb ram. soon win7-64 on 256gb SSD.
have 20 years of pc-experience. repairing etc. from 286 upwards to this dualcore. Thanks a lot

dont get the older non 3.1 boards.

big changes

1 some hardware changes revised board.

2 more stable over clocks inc higher ram usage bypass that older revision did not have (can quickly double boot bios to set ram fsb set..

(original had problems with fast ram ect n booting up. and remembering. est after 2100 ddr4

new can take 3200 no prob

3. so bios and some hardware revisions make boards more stable, esp if using fast ram in quad etc,,


for the x99 getting latest models that have addressed both hardware and bios problems.

google x99 and fast ram problems etc.. ie good reviews of original non 3.1 x99 boards and boot problems

So 6/3.1 is the right way but i would also need the right revision, right? maybe better waiting until they solved the problems.
or going the ASUS-direction.

any 3.1 x99 are revied board,, if you want x99 go with a board thats 3.1 on it.. or included 3.1 card (board revised, inc dif bios too.

6/3.1 differs from 4/3.1
1. mini PCI-e dont known what for.
2. + 1x USB 3.1 A-type
