  • Z77 Extreme 3 NVMe support

    Hi,

I see that Z77 Extreme 4 and 6 have received beta NVMe support:
    ASRock > Z77 Extreme4
    ASRock > Z77 Extreme6

Is it possible to add same support to Extreme 3?

I'll try and see with MMTOOL which modules have been updated and relevant with this...

    Thanks.

Looked at the modules in the extreme 6, and it should work, but I'm not telling to to do it, only an opinion.

Just found someone that used the 9 series modules and apparently added them to 7 series, the DXE, PEI, and UEFI code was added to them so they had the option in UEFI to set and see the PCI-E. I'm not telling you to try, I think you should just ask ASrock and they should mod one for you, they always have for me back in the day.

Contact ASrock support and ask them to send you a modded UEFI with it.

I've asked support, now I'll wait... Didn't knew that ASRock support actually reacts to inquiries like that.

I have a plan buying Samsung 950 Pro 256GB, hopefully it will work.

        Thank you.

You're very welcome. You must understand on this site we shouldn't go against the MFG and what they recommend. What you want to do should work, but unless you really know what you're doing, you don't want to be buying a new chip so that's also why I usually say to ask them.

They updated some of the other 7 series so I think they will do it for you, but if they feel they don't want to add it to that board, at least you tried to do it with the MFG. If they don't, personally I would try and add them, as i have added a lot to all my UEFI such as the newest RST OROMS, EFI RAID Drivers.

I'm praying you still have the BIOS and can share it? I've spent several hours trying to edit mine to make it work for the samsung 960 pro with no avail -- no space left...

It's a weird coincidence that I was looking for the same file in this old thread.

I preordered my 960 Evo on Amazon Germany about a month ago (it's still not in stock) and contacted ASRock Support and ASRock TSD-Eddy on tweaktown about BIOS support for the Extreme3. TSD-Eddy hasn't replied, but ASRock Support sent me BIOS version 1.50d by email.

                      Links:
                      Z77EXT31.50D.zip (4,62 MB) - uploaded.net

If I should upload it elsewhere, let me know.

BTW, I'm not sure if it's this BIOS version or some other hardware / current overclock, but I get microfreezes every 2 to 5 seconds, though they're barely noticeable. I'd be interested to know if the NVMe support actually works!

The bios appeat to be correct, I see the NVME files in it using the mmtool -- I'm updating now and i'll let you know how it goes.

The download was challenging to navigate but it worked.

Then please noted that NVME device should be installed with GPT(UEFI) mode.

The option "BIOS > Boot > CSM > Storage OpROM Policy" does not exist for me.

I migrated my Windows partition and wiped the old drive. Everything works fine with good speeds.

                              Thanks for the update, ASRock!
