  • PCIe SSD consideration

I'm considering some upgrades to my rig and was looking at getting a faster SSD so I thought I'd consider getting a PCIe SSD this time, but would like some input.

So here are my points to consider:

    1) Does my mobo support booting from a PCIe SSD? I have a 990FX Extreme4 and cannot find anything in the specs or users guide that confirms it (unless I've overlooked it, I do that sometimes). This is my main reason for this post actually.
    2) This is primarily my gaming rig, so that's my performance area of concern. I'm trying to decide between either regular SATA SSD, RAID 0 SSDs, or PCIe SSD (either native or M.2 on adapter) if my mobo supports it.
    3) If my board doesn't support PCIe SSD then what are everyone's thoughts on RAID 0 vs a single high performance SSD? I've read a lot of posts stating preferences for both.

    Thanks!

    Re: PCIe SSD consideration

    Hello
Your board does not have new SATA Express slots such as SATA M.2; So, upgrade to regular SSD. If you hadn't so many drives for storage, I would suggest you to buy 2 HDDs and make a RAID 0 array; But now, you can even make a RAID 0 array with 2 SSDs!
Anyhow, drive upgrade is not much thing to do with games. Its effect is only on loading time.
