    New Bios version adjusts SIO setting. What is SIO????

    Hi there,

    the two latest Bios Versions for my board state to adjust SIO settings.
    What does this mean in detail? Does SIO stand for "Serial Input/Output"? I don't think so, cause this interface is outdated.
    What does it mean and why should I update?

    It would help if we knew what hardware you have.

    From VMware vSphere 4 - ESX and vCenter Server:
    SIO controller
    Provides serial and parallel ports, floppy devices, and performs system management activities.
    One SIO controller is available to the virtual machine.

      Thanks for answering! Sorry, I forgot to mention my board is a Z87M PRO4, but I saw a lot of other Asrock boards got an update adjusting the SIO setting.
      Is there a way to save my Bios settings to some sort of configuration file I can import after flashing the Bios?

        You're welcome.

        From past experience with older motherboards, there was no guarantee that the previous stable bios settings would work perfectly with a newer bios version.

        We have no way of knowing what hidden bios changes and/or defaults are made in a new bios version.

        I always save a hard copy of my bios settings.

        With my older Gigabyte systems I can save a copy of my bios settings/profiles to a usb or other drive where my settings are in the saved, flashable bios file.

            Yes you can, with your board's A-Tuning utility, with the OC DNA feature.

            If you have saved any of your BIOS settings in a profile with that feature in the BIOS itself, then you can save them to disk with the OC DNA feature. But that will only work if you have saved a profile in the BIOS first. You can also apply the profiles to the BIOS with the OC DNA feature.

            But as Prof Jim said, if a BIOS update changes one or more BIOS option significantly, or changes any of the underlying BIOS settings, the previously saved profiles may not work correctly. It is impossible to predict what will happen when the older BIOS profile is applied. The OC DNA feature may even detect the difference between the older profile and the new BIOS configuration, and not allow the profile to be applied.

            I've also noticed some problems with OC DNA and the names of the profiles when they are used for the profile file name. At least this happened on my Z9 board. If the profile name used in the BIOS is long (many characters), it seems OC DNA will only accept a certain length for a file name. I'm still experimenting with this so just be careful if you try using it.

              Thanks Parsec. I was just asking to do it in a convenient way. I allready had written down what I have changed, and changed it back after the update. But you're right: rather spending 5 minutes more time with a flawless method than applying a profile from and older version which causes problems and wastes much more time do deal with.

                Another method of saving BIOS settings is the USB flash drive and F12 function key feature. With a USB flash drive in a USB port in the board, pressing the F12 key while on a BIOS screen will save a screen shot of it to the USB flash drive. Not the greatest method for multi-screen display BIOS screens, but it will work.
