  • ASRock Fatality Z97 Professional Sata3_4 Connection

Every time I connect a hard drive to this connector windows7 hangs at start up. I have an SSD, five HDD connected, and a CD/DVD connected. Currently, I'm not using Sata3_4 and every is running fine.

    Strange problem.

It seems you don't have a SSD in the M.2 slot, correct?

Did you check the BIOS, Storage Configuration screen, the M2_2/SATA3_4, SATA3_5 Switch option? Should be set to Auto or Force_SATA.

Does Windows 7 hang when any drive is connected to the SATA3_4 port? Or have you tried just one extra drive you have? If you only tried the SATA3_4 port with one particular drive, did you try that drive on another SATA port? Or move a known good drive to the SATA3_4 port?

Since you have seven SATA devices connected, at least one of them is connected to one of the two ASMedia SATA ports. What drives are connected to the ASMedia ports?

Are you using the ASMedia SATA driver, or native Windows 7 msahci driver?

Are you using the Intel IRST driver, or native Windows 7 msahci driver?
