  • ASRock Z87 Extreme9/AC no video output.

    Hi,

my brand new MB dosen't show any videosignal, at all.
My CPU is i5-4690K, also brand new.
On the CPU support list it says i5-4690K support after BIOS P2.10.
    BIOS on MB 1.70
Is it possible to upgrade BIOS?
When I can't see anything on my display...

No you can't update the BIOS without anything displayed on the monitor.

What are you using for the video source, the Intel graphics on the CPU, or a video card? If the Intel graphics, are you using the HDMI output?

Your board has the Dr Debug POST code display feature, what code do you see when you start the PC? The displayed code should stop and show one code if you have a CPU and BIOS support problem.

      Hi,

I have tried both onboard HDMI output and a VGA card both on HDMI and DVI output.

From the second I start pc, Dr. Debug shows 00. Check CPU and clear CMOS.
      Did both several times.

Z87 boards do not support Devils Canyon processors without a BIOS update, your i5-4690K is a Devils Canyon processor. Your Z87 board did not come with the BIOS that supports DC processors.

Clearing the CMOS won't help in your situation. The 00 POST code is a bad processor or the processor cannot be started.

Do you have the four or eight pin CPU power cable from your power supply connected to the board? If not, any processor will not run without that power cable connected.

The usual way to fix your problem is borrow a non-Haswell refresh CPU, or purchase a cheap Pentium (NOT G3258) CPU, install it and then flash to the required 2.10 BIOS.

          Hi parsec,

ASRock is sending me a BIOS chip, so I can put in my DC processor.
I have an 8-pin plug from my PSU.
But I have 2 8-pin connector on the MB.
          Which should I use?
1 8-pin connector on MB with all 8 from PSU.
Or 4-pins in each of the 8-pins on MB.
Don't have any plans doing OC for now.

A new BIOS chip with the appropriate BIOS is the other way to fix your problem, I thought I mentioned that.

About the eight pin power cable to the board, it should not matter which eight pin connector on the board you use, but check the manual. You don't need to have power connections to both eight pin connectors on the board, or four in one and four in the other.

              Hi Parsec,

Just got a new BIOS chip 2.30 from ASRock yesterday.
              Installed it right away.
Turned on PC. And it worked perfectly...
Thank You very much for all Your help.

              Regards tumsen911.
