power supply question

I have someone who wants to sell a Corsair AX750 Modular power supply and from what I can tell it is not Haswell approved. I will be using the Asrock z87 Extreme4 mobo and Intel 4670k. what does it rally mean to have a PU certified.

Don't worry, be happy.....as long as the used AX750 is in good shape.

The Corsair AX750 and AX850 are both made by Seasonic and are based on the 2011 Seasonic X-Series models.

Also, the fear of non-compatible Haswell PSUs is really blown out of proportion.

The problem is simply that a Haswell system that only uses the on-CPU graphics (no video card), no other PCI or PCI-E cards, using a SSD as the OS drive with HDDs only as storage drives and set to go into low power mode when not accessed, and no other loads on the 12V rail, will present a load on the 12V rail(s) that is to low for PSU stability. You would also need to have every CPU power saving option enabled, as well as Windows power saving settings in a power plan configured for maximum power savings.

The "fix" is simply to have a few fans in the PC case connected to the mother board. Like virtually everyone has that builds their own PC. I really wonder about the potential of this issue, since what CPU cooler does not use a 12V fan? I don't think we've seen one thread posted in the TTown forums where the issue was caused by a non-Haswell compatible PSU in a PC.
