  • Asrock Extreme3 990fx CPU upgrade options

I currently am running a 975BE CPU. Its great but about a year old. I noticed that the MB I have can support the following CPU's. It's frustrating that it will not take a 8350 which is about $200. I couldnt see to find the 8300 anywhere for sale. Based on my supported upgrades should I even mess with it? Will I get that much more increase by going with the 8150? Any advise is appreciated.

Re: Asrock Extreme3 990fx CPU upgrade options

Price vs performance, unless you have programs and or games that make use of eight cores I myself would pass on upgrading to the FX-8150. Just not enough difference for ~$200.

If that $200 was burning a hole in my pocket I'd look first at upgrading to a 990FX Extreme9. Or maybe even depending on where it falls price wise the newly released Fatal1ty 990FX Killer with an M.2 slot.
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.
____If you are overclocking, underclocking, or undervolting any parts, informing us of this and their values would prove beneficial in helping you.

#2 - Consider your PSU to be the foundation from which all else is built upon. Anything built upon a weak foundation is poorly built.

Thanks for the advise. I think you are right. My existing MB and CPU is pretty quick. I may look into upgrading the video card. I have a Nvidia 560 I believe now. I've had it for about a year.
