  • No power up

I'm no stranger to installing mobos.

    I just upgraded to a 980DE3/U3S3 with a AMD FX 4130 CPU.

I installed the board per usual, the DDR3's are installed in the A1 and B1 slots.

I apply power to the PSU, hit the power pushbutton on the front of the case, and the power LED light goes on, but nothing else happens. The fans do not come on, nothing lights up, zip.

Never had this happen before. Where do I start and what do I check for?

    TIA,

It looks like PSU problem or some cable is disconnected/ not connected properly. The PSU might also be too weak for that config.

PSU works with another mobo - its 600W, so I guess this new mobo's a DOA.

        Re: No power up

Did you connect the 8-pin EPS12V psu cable to your motherboard?
Did you try powering up your system with the motherboard removed from the computer case?

Have you tried using a minimal hardware setup that will get you into the bios, where you disconnect all drives, usb cable connections, and only use one memory module?

          Re: No power up

I have a 6 pin 12v rail, not 8 pin, but that is plugged in. I have tried it outside the case, still no joy, no fans, no POST beeps.

            Re: No power up

We have no idea what hardware you have in your system.
I don't care how many "pins" you have on your 12 volt rail, modern motherboards need a 4-pin ATX_12V or an 8-pin EPS12V power supply cable connected to your motherboard, along with the 24-pin power supply cable.
You can't use a 6-pin pci-e power supply cable connected directly to your motherboard!!

So you tried booting with your motherboard outside of the case, did you use a minimal hardware setup outside of the case?
What specific hardware was connected to your motherboard when it was outside of the case?

You're wasting your time and ours when you don't provide detailed hardware information.
We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs portion of your
forum profile http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile.php?do=editprofile at the bottom of the
profile page or in your forum signature http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile....=editsignature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.

Please provide links to your memory's specifications and a link to the exact model of your power supply.

I don't mean to be harsh, but we are not mind readers.

Prof Jim, this board has an eight pin EPS 12V CPU power connector of course, as you said. I imagine the OP is referring to his video card. Clearly the CPU power cable is not connected.

                Re: No power up

Sorry, when I wrote the last post I was tired, frustrated, and it was very late. I tried many different combinations of things plugged in or not, and I just plain misspoke about the 6 pin connector, it was the 8 pin one I meant. I have put in a lot of mobos before, but never had one be so stubborn.

When I finally got to bed I dreamed of those 4,6,8,20 pin connectors in my sleep.

The next morning I took it back to the dealer and got a replacement.

Now everything works fine and I am up and running Win 8, so I definitely had a bad board.

                Thanks for the help anyway.

PS I did fill out the info about what gear I had when I registered, so I figured it was accessible to anyone. Don't know why I did that if I still needed to list everything on the signature line anyway.
