970 extreme 3: Bad Motherboard??

So first computer build, I just got the necessary components to do a boot test before I screw everything in.

I seated the RAM, processor, and graphics card in the motherboard, plugged in a screen and my power supply, and started it. The fans and components I could here running and all started up, but there was no POST beep even with the motherboard speaker from my case in, and no image on the screen.

I know I didn't have any static discharge issue, and I re seated everything, switched the slots the ram was in, and still nothing.

My friend is helping me and his motherboard is a different manufacturer but has the same chipset and socket, he let me plug some of the components into his motherboard, everything worked fine. We even went as far as to put some of his components onto my motherboard to be sure, and it never worked. We did some general troubleshooting (re seating things, switching plugs, etc.) for about 3 hours and never got a beep or an image.

My question is it this enough to be sure I have a bad motherboard? Is there any other test I can perform, or am I missing anything?

What is the brand name and model number of your power supply?
Can you test with a different power supply?
Try testing with only one memory module installed.
You might need to test with your motherboard on a cardboard box beside your computer case.

My power supply is a Powork model PW-650.
I'll try another one and the ram after work.

No offense, but you've got a real POS power supply.
Use it as a low tech paper weight or door stop.
You can buy a high quality Antec, Corsair or XFX power supply for about $75 or less.
Even if you can get your system to work with your Powork psu, you're asking for trouble.

Conclusion

We come at last to the end of our odyssey o'er the seas of mediocrity. It was hard to pick a winner among losers, but the clear leader of the pack would have to be the Delta DPS300-PB-1, if for no other reason than it actually still worked after we got done with it. A distant second place goes to the Yuelin built Powork unit, for making it the furthest in our competition before puking its guts out.

In last place, we have a tie. I couldn't decide which unit sucked harder between the Chiefmax and Real PC Power Silence Blue, so I hereby declare both of them the lamest PSU I've ever laid my hands on. Except maybe my old self immolating Deer from 2001, and even that one was better built in many ways. Not only are they completely unable to meet their ratings, they're argueably dangerous to connected hardware.

So, there you have it folks. It just doesn't pay to try and save that extra $50 on your build budget by buying cheaper power supplies.

Thanks for the info, like I said, its my first build and I am kind of heavily relying on a friend who said he know how to build computers. I've been trying to do the research but its a little confusing still on the what works best together and what compatible/whats not, etc. My friend already messed up a little with the case and power supply he was like 'oh just get something that has enough watts', 5 min on ebay 'that will be fine', me, 'are you sure seems cheap', him, 'yeah, its got the watts you need, it'll be fine', ok.

Can you test with a different power supply? - Not now, but I did, originally, for sake of testing everything tried it with my friends power supply hes been using for months, nothing.
Try testing with only one memory module installed. - Just did, even reset the bios while i was at it, nothing.
You might need to test with your motherboard on a cardboard box beside your computer case. - I saw a couple tutorials quick before we started initially and I have been using the box it came in, as most suggested.

Do NOT put the anti-static bag underneath your motherboard.
Disconnect all drives and all other hardware that isn't necessary for booting into the bios.
What type of mouse and keyboard is connected? Include the brand model names.

There is an 8-pin EPS12v connector in the upper left rear corner of your motherboard.
Is there a 4-pin ATX_12v cable or an 8-pin EPS12v cable from your power supply plugged in to this connector.
Check the motherboard user manual for the correct way to connect the 4-pin psu power cable.

It's possible that your cpu and/or heatsink are not properly installed.
Make sure that the thermal grease hasn't contaminated the cpu socket.

Which hardware components did you borrow to test in your system.
Did you test with a different video card, monitor and/or cable?
