  • ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 not detecting Sapphire 7850 in PCIE x16

Per the title, my new ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 is not detecting a new Sapphire 7850 in PCIE 3.0 x16. It will not find the card at all in the top PCIE x16 3.0 port unless I manually set the card to Gen1. It will detect the card in the bottom PCIE 3.0 x16 port in Auto, but according to GPU-Z the card only runs in x8 3.0.

My GPU-Z (while rendering, it goes up to x8 3.0): imgur: the simple image sharer

This looks similar to an issue on these boards here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/4...850-gpu-2.html
However, the card tested there looks different from my card in GPU-Z: http://download.asrock.com/Z77%20Ext...e%20HD7850.jpg
Specifically, different clock and memory, and different bios and Catalyst versions. My card's SKU is 11200-07-20G.

I am just trying to determine if it's a Sapphire card problem (already submitted a ticket, no response), an ASRock z77 extreme 4 issue, or if there's something I can do to try to fix this problem--ideally sooner rather than later in case I need to RMA or return a part within a certain period.

Thanks for any help you all can offer.

    For parts, I'm using:
    ASrock z77 Extreme 4
    8 GB RAM
    Sapphire 7850 2GB GDDR5
    1TB Barracuda HD
    i5 3570k (not overclocked)
    750W Silencer MK2

Thanks for confirming that this combination does actually work.

Any ideas regarding the best way to confirm whether its the card or the mobo? I'm leaning towards mobo at this point, particularly since I get different results depending on which PCIE port the card is in, but don't have a PC I can pop the card into and confirm that it works in PCIE 3.0 x16.

I'm inclined to return the mobo and just get a Gigabyte UD3H for the same price.

Unfortunately, I already put a Hyper 212+ on it, but I'll figure out a way to get it off and just buy more thermal paste.
