N68C-GS FX and FX chips

I recently purchased the N68C-GS FX motherboard because of the upgrade opportunities. I liked being able to take an older PC I have an athlonx64 dual core and was waiting for funds to come in before I upgraded the CPU and ram.

I go today to purchase a newer fx chip and I knew the max on the board was limited by the 95w.

The issue i'm having is that the only 8 core 95w is the black edition. After some more review I noticed the only FX chips that were supported were the black editions, unfortunately none of these cpus can be found on newegg and where I can find them they are more expensive.
My question is can i purchase a new egg cpu and perhaps lower the 125 W to 95w in the bios or even simply pick up
Newegg.com - AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX which is the 6 core and at 95w but is not listed below? WOuld it make a difference?

Ultimately I want to know which CPU on newegg would be my best upgrade for this board? (even the Thubans are difficult to find).
HELP, I want to upgrade but don't want to have to start over with a new Mobo.

Yes, the FX-6100 is supported and on the list and it is unlocked. Not sure if you'll get full support as the FX processors are only officially supported on the 900Series chipsets. You have a 600 series chipset, so you may be limited on some features.

With that being said I'm sure it will perform well. Just take it easy on OC as bulldozers use a lot of power and that MB may have issues and throttle your cpu. Typically you want 8+2 phase power for the 8-core bulldozers and I'm sure the 6-cores need a lot as well.

Just check the BIOS version on the motherboard as it needs to support bullldozer or it won't post anything.

The 125-watt processors won't work as they will be blocked in the BIOS. Plus that board may not handle all that power. Be very careful if you OC that 6100. In fact I'd probably try to under volt it so it uses less power. You can probably OC at the same time. My 8120 was was undervolted 1.0v at stock speeds. (1.45v & 3.2GHz was stock) and I got all cores at full turbo of 4GHz and 1.25v. Just watch your temperatures.

ps. the cpu numbers are different because the boxed cpu get a code with BX or similar on the end.

I don't plan on OCing anything as the 6100 is such a step up from my athlon that my perception should be fine. I'll settle for the 6100 95w again does it matter that the model numbers are different on new egg vs the ones listed on the cpu support page?

as I was trying to say, they are the exact same chip. Just the box (retail) version adds the BX, while bare (OEM) chips don't. But they're exactly the same chip.
