  • New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

    I just purchased an ASRock N68C-GS FX motherboard and I am trying to install it and I am having problems. The system will not boot up. As soon as I plug in the power from the wall, the machine starts up,with out pressing the power switch or anything. The fans turn on and the hard drive starts but the monitor does not turn on,I do not get a POST beep. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your help.

    Do you have a dedicated graphics card or using the iGPU? If using the iGPU you have to make sure it's active in your bios.

      Thanks for your quick response.I have an integrated on board video chip,not a separate card.I hope I don't have to get into the BIOS because I can't start the system at all. I changed motherboard & cpu Saturday and have not been able to start up since the change.

        re: New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

        Your front panel on/off switch might be in the ON position.
        Verify that all the front panel wires are properly connected.
        Do you have a case speaker connected to the motherboard?
        Can you test your monitor and cable on a different system?

        Disconnect ALL hardware that isn't required to boot into the bios; ssd, hard drive, optical drive, audio cables, network cable, etc.
        Install only one memory module for now.
        Only connect your monitor and keyboard.
        Can you test with a different keyboard attached?
        Can you test with a different memory brand or model?

        If this doesn't help, turn off your system, unplug the power supply cable from the wall outlet and then:
        • remove your motherboard from the computer case
        • place your motherboard on a cardboard box next to your computer case
          do NOT place the anti-static bag under your motherboard
        • connect your monitor and keyboard to the motherboard
        • Do NOT connect any front panel case wires to your motherboard for now
        • carefully jumper the front panel ON/OFF pins momentarily on the motherboard with a jumper block, paperclip, screwdriver, etc.

        If all these steps fail, you should carefully remove your cpu and inspect the motherboard socket for bent pins and make sure that there are contact marks on each of the contact pads on the bottom of the cpu. There must not be any thermal grease on the cpu socket or pins.

        Don't remove your cpu until you've posted your results or if you make any progress.

            Re: New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

            @Demac
            If I understand your post correctly:
            cpu = Sempron 145 + ddr2 ram, result = does not boot
            cpu = Sempron 145 + ddr3 ram, result = does not boot
            and
            cpu = Athlon II X3 + ddr2 ram, result = normal boot
            cpu = Athlon II X3 + ddr3 ram, result = normal boot

            Do you have a case speaker connected to your motherboard?
            • What are the symptoms when you say "separately tries"?
            • Boot loop? (your computer starts up, shuts down, starts up, shuts down, multiple times)
            • Any beep codes from the case speaker?
            • Other problems?

            When you boot with the AthLon, go into the bios and tell us which bios version you are using.
            Does the Sempron cpu work in a different computer system?
            Does the Athlon 64 x2 5000 cpu work in a different computer system?
            Does your Athlon 64 x2 5000 boot with ddr2 or ddr3 memory?

            Have you tried booting with only one memory module installed.

            We need detailed information (brand name and model name or number) of all your hardware, including your power supply.
            How old is your power supply and what is the power supply's wattage.

            We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the PC Specs portion of your forum profile http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile.php?do=editprofile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile....=editsignature.

              Re: New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

              I have a casespeaker connected to m/b
              when i turn it on it stays on (no shutdown,no restarts) but i doesn't show anything.
              the case speaker doesn't make any beep

              one more problem is that when i install athlon 64 x2 5000+ the pc switch on automatically , without press the start up button).

              the bios that i use is 1.00 (i dont think that there is a newer.)

              no athlon doesn't boot with ddr3 or ddr2.

              i have tried booting with one memory module but nothing again.
              my power supply is ocz 750 watt, i bought it a few months ago.

                Re: New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

                Can you test with a different power supply?
                Sometimes a brand new power supply can be defective.

                I'm confused, did either of the Athlon processors boot OK with your motherboard.
                It sounds like there might be a problem with the motherboard's cpu socket.

                  Got the same problem.
                  I bought new power supply Corsair 600W and new motherboard Asrock n68c-gs fx.
                  I have ddr2 800 Mhz and test it with Athlon 64, Athlon Phenom Quad, Athlon Sempron and got run out of ideas.
                  I tested everything you mentioned.
                  Any new ideas, might that be incompatibility issue? Looks like more people got issue with ddr2 and am2 processor on this mobo.

                    Re: New N68C-GS Installation, will not boot

                    I had similar problems and then suddently it started to work.

                    Now I have a problem of it not warm booting. If the OS reboots, I get the same problem as described. I get accessories running but nothing on the screen or any sound at all. If I power off using the power button, then power on, the computer boots up fine.

                    I went from BIOS V1.0 to V1.4 and it's still the same.
