  • Asrock N68C-S UCC CPU Fan Issues

    Hi All,

I recently purchased an Asrock N68C-S UCC motherboard as a replacement on my previous motherboard failing. I've managed to get my system fully up and running but the CPU fan seems to be spinning at a maximum speed all the time. I've tried changing the speed settings in the BIOS (levels 1-9) but none of these actually change the speed. Can anyone help?

    Regards,

    Liam

Re: Asrock N68C-S UCC CPU Fan Issues

What brand/model number fan are you using?
Does it have a 4-pin connector?
Is the fan connected to the 4-pin CPU_FAN1 header?

From your user manual, section 3.5, page 53:
    CPU Quiet FanTarget CPU Temperature
    The target temperature will be between 45 C/113 F and 65 C/149 F. The
    default value is [50 C/122 F].
    Target Fan Speed
Use this option to set the target fan speed. You can freely adjust the
target fan speed according to the target CPU temperature that you
choose. The default value is [Fast]. Configuration options: [Fast], [Middle]
    and [Slow].

Re: Asrock N68C-S UCC CPU Fan Issues

The fan connector is a 3-pin connector that fits into the 4-pin CPU_FAN1 switch. I have manually enabled Quiet Fan to manually configure that fan speeds/temperature but even if I set the speed to level 1 it completely ignores it and continues to spin at full speed and at a high noise.
Is there anything else I can try other than purchasing a new CPU fan with manual switches?

      Thanks,

      Liam

Re: Asrock N68C-S UCC CPU Fan Issues

Some motherboards allow varying fan speed by PWM or voltage for 4-pin PWM fans.
With a 3-pin, non PWM fan, your motherboard probably can't vary fan speed.
        From your motherboard manual:
You are allowed to enable this function only when you install 4-pin CPU fan.
You will have to use a manual fan controller to vary the fan speed or install a 4-pin PWM fan for your motherboard to automatically control the fan speed.
From your description, it looks like you can enable the fan speed settings in the bios even though you are not connecting a 4-pin cpu fan to the fan header.
