  • 990FX and HD7970...incompatible?

    Odd one this. I'm using a new Asrock 990FX Fatal1ty, Bios v.1.5, 1090T CPU, 32Gb ram etc.

It works absolutely fine with an HD5870 graphics card but I've tried two different HD7970's (Powercolor and XFX) and neither will give so much as a POST/Bios screen! (System boots fine I think just no display)

I've tried different PSU just in case (Coolermaster 1000W and Corsair 1200W) but that makes no difference. Obviously tried clearing the CMOS and different PCI-E slots.
Debug LED shows 'no display present'. The 7970 card fans operate but that's about it.

Any bright ideas? I'm beginning to think choosing an Asrock was a mistake!

Report the issue to ASRock via email, they may have a beta BIOS they can send you. I think it may be because the GPU's are PCI-E 3.0

Also the board has two PCI-E X16 slots and an X8 slot. Try all of them. Check your display cable, try VGA or DVI if you're using HDMI.

Thanks, that's what I suspect too.

Emailed Asrock a couple of times but no reply! (Pretty poor really).

Tried all the rest (slots, monitors, cables etc)

      Grrr
