  • Problem with AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Have built several computers but have never had this problem. Ordered new motherboard and I5 chip and replaced my older Asus with AMD chip. Reconnected everything and turned on and here's what happens. CPU fan spins for several seconds but then just stops. When I reinstalled my old Asus motherboard everything is fine. Old motherboard works fine upon reinstall. Any ideas of whats causing this would be appreciated but im leaning towards faulty motherboard. Thanks

No its not on even long enough for anything to come on screen (several seconds)...thats why im thinking bad motherboard. I just didnt know if a bad motherboard would cause the computer to power itself back down automatically as i havent run across this before...thanks

        Re: Problem with AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

I posted the following in another thread several hours ago:

Try booting with a minimal hardware setup with only 1 memory module.
Disconnect all hardware that isn't necessary for booting into your bios.
Is your motherboard currently installed in the computer case?
How is your monitor connected? Which video port?
Do you have a case speaker connected to the motherboard speaker pins?

            Re: Problem with AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Maybe just a faulty CPU fan. Try with another one. Have in mind , that 3-pin fans must be connected to 3-pin headers and PWM fans - to PWM mobo headers. Also some fans have problems , rotating on low voltage, so be sure to set CPU fan to Full On in BIOS hardware monitoring page.

did you make sure you had all your stand offs holding the mobo ? sometimes it can create a short if you dont have them all
