tried 2 different power supplies, 650 and 450. the power button on the front panel and on the mb itself has no effect. the clear cmos reset button on the back panel actually gets the cpu fan and chassis fans to turn on but then after about 5 seconds it just shuts off. i have no other devices plugged in, just 1 stick of ram. any ideas?

it shuts off and stays off? could try leaving battery out overnight,then trying,tested with only one stick in one ram slot,test each ram slot,Gigabyte z77x UP4-TH F11c Modded Bios

If the pwr button has no effect ,then dont reset the cmos without disconnecting everything.
reset cmos when its cold.Start it up like its brand new . get to the bios fast.There is a very short time until it seeks to full boot.
Try powering on your monitor (I mean powering it on not wake from rest ) in the initial post phase.Current Systems:

I figured out my problem. The back of the MB is toughing the case. Looks like a grounding issue. I jsut loosened some MB screws and it worked.Comment
