ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 Z68 - onboard sound issue

Has any person experienced a problem with the onboard sound of this motherboard.

The OS I am using is Win 7 Pro 64bit.
Spes:
Intel i5-2500k clocked at 4.7GHz
8 GB Corsair RAM (2x4GB)
Crossfire 2 x Saphire HD55700 Radeon

Have looked in the device manager and I can see 2 entries under Sound, video and game controllers for - AMD High Definition Audio Device.

These are apparently working properly.

My issue is that on the windows task bar (bottom right) The audio/sound symbol has a red circle / cross next to it. When I look at the playback properties, both AMD devices say ' Not Plugged in'.
I have of course tried to plug in a stereo 1/8th jack from my mixer out to the back panel. I have also tried a headset (has audio and mic jacks).
My suspicion is that the AMD HDMI are related to the HDMI ports. Should there be any other sound devices on this board?

did you install the realtek sound drivers? amd sound is for your hdmi connection to your monitor or tv





click the yellow folder in realtek sound settings and click disable front panel jack detection or click ac97 sound

Thanks for your effort; the problem was below the OS level.

Okay so here the vic on this problem.

The BIOS setting for the onboard sound chip (South bridge) was set to Auto. I changed this option to 'Enabled' and saved the changes.

I haven't tested the main board without the PCI graphics cards in them - it turns out that each Sapphire Radeon graphics card is responsible for the AMD HDMI outputs ( 1 per card ). I suspect that the motherboard disabled the onboard sound processor due to the detection of other sound devices.

As I said I had not tested the 'auto' setting without the graphics cards installed, yet I suspect this is the logical reason.

ahh,i wouldnt have thought onboard sound on auto would affect things but glad you figured it out

Thanx Psypha, I had the same problem with no sound. Much appreciated re: southbridge fix.
