Re: New AsRock H67M-GE/HT build unstable

I have a similar build to you, but with an i3-2100. The problem that I initially ran into is that when doing movie playback in XBMC the machine, after warming up for a while would start buffering the playback. All indicators pointed to a problem with motherboard temperature, even though the case had adequate cooling for this kind of build.

I have since re-built the machine into an enclosure with an external pico-psu and from what I can tell the heat problems have disappeared.

    However, I do notice a couple of other annoyances with this build;

    1. The onboard NIC is VERY slow to come back after waking the machine up, taking up to 30 seconds to renew a DHCP lease.
    2. The vaunted "good night" LED feature is worthless. The way the feature is worded for other ASRock motherboards is that it will shut the LEDs off when the machine is SLEEPING but with this board it simply shuts them off at boot up... which is worthless. I want the LEDs on when it is in use and I want them off when it is sleeping, is that so much to ask?
    3. The machine seems to have problems with sleep. I will put the machine to sleep via USB IR and then inevitably I will later hear the machine huffing and puffing, like it is running at full load. The case is very hot and I have to manually turn the machine off. This particular problem is really the most annoying one, because I don't know how to troubleshoot it. I suspect that there is a problem in the UEFI with windows sleep mode, but have not had time to dig into it, and honestly should not have to. I've used tons of motherboards over the past several years for which sleep works perfectly.

i think you can disable putting the nic to sleep somewhere in lan or mb bios settings,so when the pc does sleep the lan will keep working? not sure on that though but its worth testing

Re: New AsRock H67M-GE/HT build unstable

Well, I'm back - this time with some new (specifically supported by the MOBO) memory modules. Unfortunately, I have exactly the same results (a freeze in memtest86 at about the 1 hour mark) and random freezes during actual use.

So, I guess it's not the memory...

I've gone back through this thread and re-applied the suggestions made by wazza300, but still no luck. I've sent another email to ASRock support, but haven't heard back yet (just sent it).

        Any other ideas?

        Thanks,

        Jeff

how much ram are you testing in memtest? all available ram? and what are your current cpu and qpi/vtt or imc voltages?

Re: New AsRock H67M-GE/HT build unstable

Currently, I'm testing with all 8GB (using the new G.Skill modules). However, in my earlier tests, I tried both 4GB modules separately and together, and in both sets of DIMM slots. Should I cut back to 4GB for now?

Regarding the voltage settings... I'll verify them and report back as soon as I can. It's currently running another test.

As always, thanks for your advice.

Re: New AsRock H67M-GE/HT build unstable

it should run with 8gb fine, maybe slight adjustment of imc voltage but not much, and set dram voltage according to ram,you can test with xmp if your ram supports it,thats if you havnt used xmp already,it still could be a bios bug/incompatibility? idk

when your test is complete try with just 1.18v vtt,i think you allowed to safely use 1.2v on sandybridge,if it still errors put back to default

OK, changed VTT to 1.187 and restarted the test... Now, I just need to wait the customary hour... ;^)

Nope - same freeze so I reset VTT to AUTO.

I noticed some other threads where people have eliminated seemingly similar Sandy Bridge freezes by disabling C3 and C6. So, I'm testing that now...

No go with C3 and C6 disabled. Now, I've also disabled C1. Trying again.
