  • Issues with 890GM Pro3 R2.0

    Hi there,

I've searched far and wide for the answers to these problem I have but to no avail.

    My config:

    Board: 890GM Pro3 R2.0
    CPU: X4 965 C3 Black
    Mem: 2X2Gb A-Data 2000Mhz running at 1600Mhz
HDD: Samsung 1Tb HD103SJ (updated FW for SB850 compatibility)
VGA: Sapphire 5830 (onboad IGP disabled)
Sound: Logitech G35 and receiver through HDMI (onboard Realtek disabled)
    PSU: Everest 500W modular
Win 7 64bit Home premium (fresh install)

I have three separate issues with my board:

    1, AXTU error:
After installing either the version on the CD or the latest from the site I get the below message when I start the app.

Name:	AXTU error.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	13.1 KB
ID:	755970
AXTU does start up after this message but it shows only zeros almost everywhere.
My win is freshly installed, I don't OC at the moment, I tried 1.4 and 1.5 BIOS and 3 different AXTU versions.
    2, CPU/System FAN PWM control:
Also with both BIOS versions I tried. IT seems that even on the lowest possible setting the board is running the FANs at about 50% speed
For example If I set the target level to 1 and temp to 65C I get 1500RPM right after boot even with a 30C CPU. My fans range would be 600-2000. This is very annoying as I can't make a silent PC despite having a 35C idle CPU temp.
    3, Can't use my Logitech G5 with 1.5 BIOS:
I've update the BIOS to this version hoping to overcome issues 1 and 2 but instead I turns out with this version I can't use the mouse in the BIOS.

    Hope I gave enough details.
Thanks in advance for your help.

        Hi,

        Any update on this?

Is the new BIOS still under development or should I contact Asrock technical support directly for this?

        Thanks in advance.

          Re: Issues with 890GM Pro3 R2.0

Got the new BIOS (1.51A) from ASrock TSD in reply to the ticket I raised through the site but thought I'll post my findings here as well.

I've updated to this new BIOS, and it did lower the idle on the CPU fan so now it runs at 1200 instead of the 1500.
The chassis fan is runnig at same level though.
My idle CPU temp is still under 40C with the lowered CPU fan speed so there would be a lot of headroom to go even lower with the minimum speeds, but it's better already so thank you for this.

            Hi Emily,

            The current situation with 1.51A:
            BIOS setting Target Level 1 , 55C
            Temps:
            CPU: 37C (cores 33)
            MB: 35C
            CPU FAN: 1200 RPM (range: 600-2000) - http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/cp...13.html?c=2181
            Case FAN: 1000 RPM (range: 400-1350) - http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/ca...wm.html?c=2183

I'm writing so much about this cause I bought this mATX board to make a small HTPC for my living room. This is why low idle fans speeds would be crucial.
Thank you for the help so far, looking forward for further beta testing ;)
Also if your tests show that the fan speed control works correctly with other FAN manufacturers products then please send that as well.

            Thanks and regards,
            Oliver

Does AXTU run without errors with the beta bios?
If yes, can you lower the chassis fan speed with AXTU?
You might want to buy a fan controller so that you can manually set fan speeds to lower the noise level.
Your Arctic Cooling fans should under-volt well, but some manual fan controllers don't provide low enough voltage adjusts for very quiet operation.

note: I've deleted your recent duplicate post in the No DDR3 2000 option available on 890GM Pro3 r2.0 with bulldozer CPU thread.

                  Dear profJim,

                  Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately AXTU has never worked for me with this board. Even after a Win7 reinstall I get the same error message when I start AXTU as I posted in my first post.
But anyway the beta BIOS sort of lowered the idle speeds so I moved past this issue since then.
On the other hand the DDR3 2000 thread I opened is not a duplicate of this one but a whole new thing I experienced since I bought a FX8120 CPU so please don't close that one.
