  • P4VM800, 2x1GB DDR DIMMs, both recognized --- BIOS reports only *1* GB.

I pulled an old P4VM800 (BIOS version 1.30), installed two 1GB (low-densitiy) DDRx1 DIMMs (both are brand name - one Kingston, the other Samsung), and started the machine.

The BIOS reported 2x1GB DIMMs found -- however, the total memory is reported as 1G, not 2G (they are also reported as PC2700, rather than PC3200, but this is OK as per the BIOS settings.)

Processor is P4 HT 2.8GHz /512M cache (if at all relevant).

    What am I missing?

I have been playing with it... Having replaced the processor to 2.8GHz Prescott version (from the previous 3.0GHz Prescott), the BIOS now "sees" both DIMMs.

Unfortunatly, now that it does, it also notices the other DIMM is fauilty... :-(
