  • Z68 Extreme4 SLI Power Connector

As the title suggest, I'm guessing this molex connector is only required to be powered if you have a dual card setup correct? Would it be wise to still connect it with single higher end cards that use large amounts of power such as the Geforce GTX 570/580? Would it hurt at all to have it connected or not connected when only using a single high end card?

You mean the supplied molex connector? You only need to use that if you don't have enough 6 or 8 pin gpu plugs on your psu

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, but I was talking about this:
The molex connector next to the first PCI Express x1 slot. It says that's required for SLI setups, but not for single card setups. My question was would it be necessary though to use it on high end single graphics card, or would the supplied power from the 2x PCI-E connectors and from the slot be good enough?

I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think its only for sli(more than one card),for single cards then your psu should have enough connections

Re: Z68 Extreme4 SLI Power Connector

I run 2 x 560ti i SLI without the molex connected on a Z68 extreme, without any problems. Although the manual recommends plugging it in if one has problems with instability.
So i presume its for systems where you are pushing the limits of your PSU or have a monster setup like QuadSLI gtx 590.
