  • Noob question, repairing a custom build, asrock drivers

I have being getting BSOD's since I've had this computer, and the motherboard was swapped out by the builder (he thought it was damaged in shipping) as well as a change in the graphics card. The BSOD's still occurred after that until finally the computer wouldn't load windows at all - hung at startup.

So this weekend, I reinstalled windows 7 OS (from OEM disk). My question, is that I see the page with the drivers for the X58 Extreme 3 (ASRock > Products > Motherboard > X58 Extreme3 > Download_) and I've installed a couple already but am paused at the LAN_Win7-64_Win7(7006) folder because the readme file says its for vista and xp. Do I need to reinstall all of these drivers? So far computer is running okay, but I haven't added a lot to it.

BTW, I'm seriously new at this, and cannot have it repaired again by the original builder.

Win7 finds and installs all the drivers for you anyway so no need to install the LAN,its only for xp/vista that you have to install them later

Wow, thanks for the prompt response! I'm glad I was recommended to come here for assistance.

Second question then - will there be a conflict if I already installed the drivers from the list if Windows supposedly installed them already?

The clean install is nervous-making, and I had to unplug my 2ndary drive to get windows to load, even after the install. For whatever reason, the bios stopped recognizing the 2nd drive after the clean install. I still haven't addressed this problem, just trying to get things back up and running one at a time. Maybe someone could give me advice on why the second drive (2 TB WD drive) become nonfunctional and caused boot problems. I did not install the OS on this drive.

Does the 2tb drive show up in the BIOS? Maybe enable smart and see if any errors pop up for the drive, and no it shouldn't affect thing regarding drivers its just win7 does it all for you

Re: Noob question, repairing a custom build, asrock drivers

from my experience (other hardware, but same symptoms), replacing the PSU was the solution. Guess the old couldn't deliver enough power on one of the rails anymore. If not tried yet, it might be worth a try.
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
Whitey:Snuggles: Zotac Zbox HD-ID40 (Atom d525, worst purchase ever on cpu), Patriot Pyro 60GB (Thanks to Tweaktown Giveaway), 4GB 800' DDR2 SO-DIMM
          Bcube (NAS): ASUS F1A75-I Deluxe, AMD A6-3500 @ 2.1GHz, LSI 9240-8i (M1015) controller, GSkill Ares 1866 8GB blue kit, 4x Seagate SV35.5 2TB, 1x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB, 1x Samsung HD103UJ, 1x Samsung F4 2TB, Temp. Rebel9 Alu case, Corsair H60, 2x Icy Dock MB973SP-B, NZXT UI01, Enermax T.B. Silence on docks and cpu, Aurum 500W gold PSU. (Draws 65W average, doesn't peak above 100W at any time)

Re: Noob question, repairing a custom build, asrock drivers

I have a 700W power supply, so I can't imagine that being the problem (famous last words) and I don't know what "Smart" is. The bios did not see the 2nd drive before I unplugged it. Right now I'm still dealing with random BSOD's, so the 2nd drive is low priority. Running memtest when I get a chance, just wanted to eliminate any lacking drivers from asrock. I'll get back to the 2nd problem drive once I've established that memory isn't faulty.
