  • Service packs make my system stop working.. any ideas?

I've tried installing SP1 a few times now (under the impression that I needed this to install SP2) and it does install, however, afterwards I will boot up and no programs will open, no windows will open, all of my startup programs won't even load.

I have to reboot in safemode and use system restore prior to the installation and everything works again.

I've been able to install service packs before, what's the problem?

Someone told me it was because I needed drivers but I have the same drivers if not more recent ones now than I did when service packs still installed.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

You might see if you can download the service pack again and see if you had a corrupted copy initially.

Psymon....did you get your problem cleared up?

I'm interested because I have an HP Pavilion and they caution us about installing SP1....there's a software patch at the HP site called "SP1RcvryFix.exe" they want us to download before (or after) we install SP1. Scary situation. Hope you got it figured out.

Thanks, I'd appreciate hearing from you about what you did.
