  • Start menu and Shortcuts

I have a tendancy to remove all the main shortcuts out of the folders in the start menu and place them all in the root of the start menu. Does this slow down start up, or how long it takes to launch the start menu?

WHY? Your saying you take all of the shortcuts out of the "All Programs" folder and place them in the "Start Menu" folder?

No no, I guess I should have been more specific. I mean take the main shortcut out of the shortcuts folder, and stick it in the programs folder. So when I click start, I go to programs, then there is a bunch of shortcuts in there. I thought that I heard somewhere that it slows down the login sequence. I couldnt find much of a reason why it would, but I figured Id ask.

I don't think that doing that will make any noticeble difference

Unless you put them in Start > Programs > Startup, it wouldn't really make a difference. Having those extra shortcuts in the start menu adds a few registry entires, but those won't slow boot-up time by even a millesecond on almsot any system.
