I came across an on-line website store that is using red hat. How secure is red hat for secured on-line transactions? I do not know how exactly secure on-line transactions occur.

Linux security is as good as its administrator but still it is better than a Windows based machine.
I think you should do a bit of search and read more about secure online transaction.
Here is a basic page
Just mentioning two important points I would say look for "https" instead of "http" in a URL in your address bar and secondly a padlock icon in your browser window.
these two things will give u a bit of surity that the transactions you do on that particular site are secure.
I hope you will be able to find answers to your query by a bit of searching. If you still have doubts then just post here again and I will move this thread to "Internet and Networking" where you might get more responses :cheers:Latest Microsoft Security Updates.

I agree with all of the above.
But the linux vs Windows security issue it a little skewed.
Linux isnt bulletproof, nothing is. But the reason why it shines over windows is the quality of code.
Dont think tho that you can just set up a linux box and forget about it and its going to be secure. Its going to need updating just like windows.
