  • Problems With SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROT

Damn i can't get my updates, tried reinstalling but nothing to do...it always bug! any ideas? Would a REG cleaner be useful?

I too have had problems at times with the update function.
On occasion the program just locks up?

I'm unaware of the exact cause of this behaviour.
Most times, after a while I try again and update is succesful.

    Perhaps the server is busy??
A fault in how the program behaves when unable to contact the uddate server?

    I'm truly not sure :?:

        No apology necessary!

This behaviour in Spybot S&D is quite annoying even if not persistent.

The software detects and cleans malware so well I suppose I'm willing to forgive it for this quirk?
But it would be a plus if this didn't happen at all.

Didn't want to start another thread... I use many programs and i want you opinions, are they all necessary?

-ZoneAlarm Pro (I wont get rid of it!)
            -SpyBot search & destroy 1.2
            -Ad-Aware 6
            -SpywareBlaster
            -SpywareGuard
            -Hyjack this
            -XP Antispy

Hijackthis was really useful once, permitted to stop a browser hyjack that Ad-Aware and spybot didn't see! And for SpywareGuard and Spyware blaster they protect "****" from installing like active-X protocols and other things... maybe it's overkill! Anyway that was to prevent another format... but i am starting to have shutdown problems on winXP now... maybe ill have to format anyway!

I think Hijack This is a useful utility however, it may overlap with Spybot Search & Destroy's immunization capabilities :?:

You only need proper protection once :thumb:

I'm thinking that's a bit of an overkill

personally, I only use Spybot S&D and it does well enough on it's own. I can see running adaware too, but even that seems a bit much to me. But running all of those just seems plain silly or singnals a case of exteme paranoia

being careful when you surf and watching what you install will go a lot farther to keeping your system clean than redundant applicatoins

Actually havin' that many similar progs I'd be close to callin' someone paranoid.
