Ya know this little app which let you create an boot floppy and then run the test.

Anyway, how long does it take to scan a modern pc (2.5ghz or faster) with 1024Mb ram in dual channel..:?:

What is normal for a system like that, is it like 5 minutes or more like 45-60 Minutes..:?: Also, is this the best software around? Does it scan all memory in the system like cpu cache etc..? Can this software miss errors and report them as errorfree even though it isn't..?

I use memtest86 all the time and i have yet to receive a misdiagnosis from it. I don't believe it it tests the cpu cache at all. With a GB or ram, it is probably around the 25min mark.

a single pass with memtest doesn't take very long, but if you want it to chatch random errors you need to let it run for several hours...preferably overnight
