Whats a good way to stop unwanted popup adds?

I've always liked Pop-up stopper pro ver 2.0 in the past becuase unlike other versions of pop-up stopper, Pop-up stopper pro ver 2.0 is a plug-in for Internet Exporer and only runs when my web browser is open, but now some of the newer popups\adds have a way of getting around it and some of the very latest stuff can even shut Pop-up stopper down and start installing unwanted stuff to my system.:steam:

I've got something called Spybott (Not Spybot S&D) that installed itsself onto my system that I can't get rid of. When you try to uninstall it it'll take you to a website that'll try to install more spyware. There is some other spyware that got on my system also, (can't remember the name of it), it was easy to uninstall but must have left something behind that brings up a popup box when my system is idle that ask to install more spyware. Even if you select NO or terminate it through Windows Task manager it'll still installs itself and takes you to a webpage that thanks you for installing it then has a bunch of pop-ups ready for you when you shut down IE if pop-up stoppers turned off :scream:. I already have Windows messenger turned off so that option woun't help.
How can this stuff get away with adding links to porn sites without you're acceptance anyway?
Spybot S&D and Adware are useless against this new stuff. HELP!!!!

Maybe a firewall would help but I do video gaming online and would like to keep the hassle to a minimum.

Sounds to me like you have encountered RapidBlaster, as "spybott" is one of it's many aliases.

    Check out the page at this link;

Hopefully the utility there RapidBlaster Killer, can get you fixed up.

    best of luck to you!!

a firewall is a must but it doesnt stop you from gaming online so long as you open the port you need...

as for unwanted pop ups I just use Opera, stops them all.

yeh Opera does stop the pop-ups but be rest assured that it won't be stopping the pop-ups generated by a spyware that is installed on your PC.
if you ever tried audiogalaxy before it was shut down, you will know wat i m talking about :)

so does Mozilla...best pop-up stopper I ever used :thumb:

as for gaming and a firewall...unless you are setting up a server it shouldn't be a problem at all. I use Zone Alarm as well as the NAT filewall on my router...all I had to do to play online was to allow the game to access the internet (just click yes on the ZA pop-up)...you should only need to open a port(s) if you are hosting the game

I guess maybe I should make myself more clear.

What you are getting is indeed pop-ups.
These pop-ups are being downloaded by the RapidBlaster software that has been installed on your system.
This software is installed automatically through Active X as you surf sites which play such rude trickery on surfers.

The link I supplied is to a place where you can download a program designed to remove RapidBlaster from your system.
It is all but impossible to remove this software manually, get the utility and use it.

I highly recommend that after it is gone you disable Active X in Internet Explorer using the security options.

As for the pop-up stopper, Analog X makes POW, a nice pop-up stopper that is fully trainable so you can keep the pop-ups you need.

Anyone know about Spyblast? Thats the other one that has invaded my system. I't constanly pops up wanting to be installed. Even though its probably installed itself dozens of times already becuase there is noway not to install it if it pops up short of killing your internet connection.

Mr. C, I'll try your link but right now it seems to be down. I'll let you know if it worked.

Update --- After the scan it reads no rapidblaster detected. I must have something other than rapidblaster but Spybott is definitly listed under my add\remove program list, but ofcoarse it can't be uninstalled that way.

Spybot S&D is reported to destroy Spyblast

Make sure to get the latest update to Spybot S&D and give that a whirl.

I'm beginning to get seriously concerned if this doesnt do the trick:eek:

I got ahold of a German version of Adaware pro 6.0. The regular adaware 6.0 wouldn't do the trick but the profesional version fixed the registry so this Spybott thing could be removed normally. I'm pretty sure Spybott was bringing up the Spyblast stuff.

                  Thanks for the help everyone.
