  • Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

Hello. I am going to build a Ivy Bridge setup and wanted some feedback.

This is the components i chosed:

    + i7 3770K when it starts selling on 29th April i hope.

What do you think about it? Does it look good or should i change something?

Should i buy some better fans and make it like this?

    1 x 120mm Front - Intake
    1 x 120mm Bottom - Intake
    1 x 120mm/140mm Top - Exhaust
    2 x Antec 920 Rear - Exhaust

What rpm should the fans be?

Was thinking to get one of these:

Scythe 120mm Gentle Typhoon 500 RPM
Nexus Real Silent 120mm 1000 RPM
    Noctua NF-S12B FLX 120mm 1200 RPM

    Thanks!

looks ok to me,are these psu's cheaper in sweden?

also what about this graphic card?

    Sapphire 11200-01-20G HD7850 2GB GDDR5 OC Graphics Card: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

is this ram cheaper? it would be better if it is as it runs at 2133mhz-2400mhz

Re: Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

I picked the Corsair since i already have a HX 850w, but since 850w is overkill i thought i should get HX 650w for my next rig since i know its good quality and did not fail me even once.. But i will consider the XFX P1-650S-NLB9 since its a bit cheaper.. only a few bucks tho.

I'm not sure whether i want an AMD card, i always had nvidia and i like it, it know AMD offers more performance for the price but nvidia has always had better software then AMD/ATI so its not only about the power, its about the overall experience i get with it.. i was thinking i should not buy a GFX now but instead run on Intel HD 4000 and then buy nvidia 6xx cheaper version in june or when it comes out, but i guess the Intel HD will be **** to play on so i will be forced to get a decent gfx now.

I checked that ram, it seems very good but they don't sell it here, i would have to buy from UK if i wanted but i will see if there is something similar in the stores here.

      Thanks

Yeah I understand, those xfx psu's come with 5 year warranty also ,and if you can wait for more kepler cards to come out it would be better,

I got my ram from ebay, but if you can't find any kits the corsair vengeance will be fine

          Hi,

Noctua fans are very good and their aftersales service is excellent, so I don't think you'll go far wrong if you chose that brand. In terms of a PSU, I have one of a 1000w which may be considered to be overkill but it allows for further expansion and I figure that it is better to have more than less.

Do you have any experience with Intel boards? I was looking at the DZ77GA-70K and it looks good but it is a bit more expensive then ASUS P8Z77-V PRO. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to buy Intel board, maybe i will regret later. I always wanted a Intel board but ended up getting one of the popular brands like ASUS and Gigabyte.

Some people say, they are not good for overclocking because they are made for Reliability/Stability while some other people claim Intel boards are the worst.

I've never had an issue with an Intel board... ever. Whilst they've not historically been overclockers, they are imo very stable/reliable. Currently using an Intel DX58SO.
Im not going to overclock but i would like to make the ram run at 1600mhz at stock speeds. i guess that will work.

            What do you think? Thanks

Re: Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

Im going to get the ASUS board.

I will order everything tomorrow if it will be possible to buy order the CPU then.

I have one last question, i see there is 12 gb

                Corsair Vengeance DDR3 2000MHz 12GB CL10 (Kit w/3x 4GB XMS3 modules, CL10-10-10-27 1.5V, Vengeance Heatspreader)
for only ~ 5-10$ more then the one i planned to buy, is it better to buy 12gb instead of 16 but get 2000mhz, or is that only good / needed when overclocking? I just want to run everything at stock but have my ram run at full speed. Thanks

Re: Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

the advantage of going with the asus is more folks will be using it so can help ect with issues that might crop up,i dont know any that run intel boards

as for ram its not like older platforms, you can run 16gb+ at 2133mhz+ without stability issues due to the cpu's using a fixed bclk, with older platforms you adjusted the bclk which made ram need more voltage/integrated memory controller voltage to remain stable,

if you can buy an 8gb kit then that would be enough imo, then later add in another 8gb kit if you want to make 16gb,im running 16gb and to be honest i dont use half of it

if the 16gb kit is cheaper then go for that, more ram is always nice to have

Re: Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

Ivy Bridge will start selling on Sunday apparently so thats when i will order everything but there is one issue now.

Yesterday the store i was going to order from sold Asus P8Z77-V PRO at 44% off.. i did not notice so i missed a great deal but now the problem is, they dont have any in stock and i wanted to order everything from the same store. So i don't know what to do, should i get Asus P8Z77-V non Pro from this store or get Asus P8Z77-V PRO from another store. I dont understand fully the difference between those 2. Maybe you know better since you have a similar board. Thanks

i would wait for the pro version,if its like the z68 boards the v model wont let you set (minus) -cpu voltage offset which might come in handy on ib chips in reducing cpu voltage as they dont use much power, the pro version lets you set -cpu voltage offset, there might be other differences too but thats one major difference that i know of

Re: Ivy Bridge Build - Feedback please

I ordered a ASUS P8Z77-V PRO now, a store was selling it at 16% off, i was afraid they would sell it out so i was fast to order one ;)

But i still have not managed to sell my existing PC.

I have put it on a ebay like website for 750$ during 2 weeks but only 1 guy called and offered to trade for a laptop and there was over 300 views on my ad.

What do you think i can get for this:

                          FRACTAL DESIGN DEFINE R2 Black
                          Corsair CMPSU-850HX 850W
                          GA-EX58-UD5 S1366 X58 ATX
                          Intel Core i7 930 D0 2.8ghz
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 470 OC 1280MB GDDR5, (630Mhz), 2xDVI, mini HDMI, HDTV, with Cuda
X25-M SATA II SSD 80GB (2 of them)
                          Noctua NH-D14 - CPU cooler
                          DVD RECORDER 22X +R/+RW - R/-RW SATA BLACK
                          OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 PLATINUM LOW-VOLTAGE TRIPLE CHANNEL *EOL- 6 GB ( 3 x 2 GB )
SCYTHE 5,25"" Fan Control SCYTHE Kaze (KM02-BK)

                          Built April 2010.

I remember when i used to buy PC's for 700-800$ and i always managed o sell them for 300-400$

I guess the problem is that many people is moving to laptops, tablets etc.. and they use consoles to play games.

If i don't manage to sell it for a reasonable price then i will maybe keep it or give it away to a cousin.

i dont know with swedish prices,if you cant sell it maybe better to split it and sell the components seperately? you might have better luck that way, think of a price you would like in your head for the complete pc and break it down for each part and advertise each part so that you claw back all or as much as youd wanted if it were a complete pc
