  • AM3+ motherboard decision... which one?

Ok, my system is starting to show its age (3+ years) but it's plowed along like a trooper, however, my favorite holiday is here, tax refund season!
Building a new system, and narrowed down to two mobo choices...
    Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 or
    ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional

Looking at AMD Quad or 6 core processor, probably 8GB RAM, single video card, 24" HD monitor, nothing overly beastly.
Right now my CPU choice is the
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE Thuban (if I can find one) or
AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz (thoughts on this also?)

And probably an AMD HD6950 video card (trying to keep it sub-$250)

Thoughts on CPU and Mobo? is one or the other work better as a combo?

Also, due to my asthetic vanity, keeping a color scheme of black and red for the most part. Trivial, but it's my ongoing theme, lol.

Oh, and CPU cooler, I haven't kept up on hardware as much lately, rocking a ZALMAN CNPS9900 NT on my Athlon X2 3000+ right now... Better choices for my AM3+?

Edit: Primary use is medium gaming, stayed away from high end games due to system age, I play WoW regularly, Fallout 3 some, Farcry 2 a bit, etc. Working 70 hrs/week doesn't allow much gaming anymore, but I want my options open.

without knowing those 2 boards personally, I'd pick the gigabyte from those. ASRock have good features but a cheap feeling when you have them (might just be superstition though).
On cpu you are on the right track, I'd get a 1090T rather as well. It still performs better on most tasks - It does use a lot of power though.

The 2 ASUS 990FX boards are both awesome, but might end up over the money you want to spend, personally I regret going with the ROG version instead of the Sabertooth half a year ago. On cooler I use the NZXT Havik 140, where the new 120model would most likely be sufficient though. It's silent (can't hear it next to gfx card in idle), and my CPU has never been above 45 degrees. (My full specs are in signature)
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
Whitey:Snuggles: Zotac Zbox HD-ID40 (Atom d525, worst purchase ever on cpu), Patriot Pyro 60GB (Thanks to Tweaktown Giveaway), 4GB 800' DDR2 SO-DIMM
    Bcube (NAS): ASUS F1A75-I Deluxe, AMD A6-3500 @ 2.1GHz, LSI 9240-8i (M1015) controller, GSkill Ares 1866 8GB blue kit, 4x Seagate SV35.5 2TB, 1x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB, 1x Samsung HD103UJ, 1x Samsung F4 2TB, Temp. Rebel9 Alu case, Corsair H60, 2x Icy Dock MB973SP-B, NZXT UI01, Enermax T.B. Silence on docks and cpu, Aurum 500W gold PSU. (Draws 65W average, doesn't peak above 100W at any time)
