  • Asus P8z68 deluxe 22nm compatabilty (Ivy Bridge)

    Hello all,

Can someone please confirm that the older (non Gen 3) ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe (B3) will infact support Ivy Bridge (22nm CPU)

All I can find is that the GEN 3 supports this out of the box and that the NON GEN 3 will with a Bios update.

    Is this True???

I have a decent option on ebay right now...

    Thanks.

He unfortunately is not accepting PM's

According to the Asus download support these boards will support Ivy Bridge with a Bios update. But is their any difference between this and "native" support?

Re: Asus P8z68 deluxe 22nm compatabilty (Ivy Bridge)

That's the major question in my mind.
What rights do we have if their claimed "support" is not 100%?
Probably not much unless they step up and do "the right thing".
I seen a few cases where claimed/promised support didn't happen and it wasn't necessarily the motherboard manufacturer's fault.
If you don't mind being on the "bleeding edge", hope for the best, expect the worst, and accept whatever happens.
My time and effort dictates that I wait to see if everything works out as promised and then go for the gusto.
Both of my five year old systems still meet my needs so I'm willing to wait.
Then again, I've been around the block quite a few more times than most forum members. ;)

your better off going for the gen3 boards as they have better support for pci-e3,i think both support ivy bridge but the non gen 3 wont support pci-e3

Re: Asus P8z68 deluxe 22nm compatabilty (Ivy Bridge)

            +1^^^I agree, but...
I know that you're trying to save money and I think that you're being penny wise and pound foolish by going with a non-gen3 board.
If you absolutely can't wait until the expected release date sometime in late March or early April for the Ivy Bridge cpu and motherboards, I think that your best bet is to buy a "real" current gen3 motherboard that has all the required hardware components. If you don't play demanding computer games, then there is little advantage to going with a pci-e 3.0 gen3 motherboard. You can save money now, but will pay more if you later decide that you want the advantages that Ivy Bridge will/should provide.

It's your money and it's your call.

              Thanks for the feedback.

I too wold personally go for the gen 3 boards.

Butl the reason I looked at non gen3 boards was price. I had te option of geting the P8z68 deluxe 70 Euro cheaper!
That isn't really penny pinching. I do understand the differences, but was trying to establish the physical differences on the 2 boards.
Th only concern is whether or not PCI 3.0 GPU's will function in a 2.0 slot!
