  • Upgrade what to get?

    Howdy gents.

Decided on a upgrade needing a CPU, Mobo and Ram. Previously owning a Q9550, P45-DS5 and Team Xtreem Dark 4GB Ram.
I believe in getting decent parts but not looking at spending top dollar on parts if you get my drift :)

The bits left over are a Xigmatek 1000 PSU and a ATI 5850
I am a gamer but also look at O/C the rig to get more out of it.

I am out of the loop in what performs great so your assistance will be a great help.

    What socket to get 1156 or a 1366? I have my eye on these i5 750, i7 860, i7 875 or a i7 930

I have no idea on ram and what motherboard but am used to the Gigabyte boards.

Once again you opinion and recommendations will be appreciated and taken seriously.

    Cheers

    Lighty

    Why not consider AMD's hexacore?

Ok so I am looking at the i7-930 or the AMD..... I will only ever run a single GPU, not really being a fan of DUAL cards.

              Re: Upgrade what to get?

Final choices there look good to me, although I would save a few bucks and get a 920 instead of a 930.

If you plan on overclocking you wont be using the 930's x22 CPU multi anyway so your best bet is 920

                Re: Upgrade what to get?

                Lightly,

How's your experience with the GA-X58A-UD3R with the Kingston KHX2000C9AD3T1K3/6GX?

What speed are you running on the CPU and the RAM? Were you able to enable the XMP of the RAM?

Can you please post your OC configuration?

                Thanks! :-)

                  Re: Upgrade what to get?

XMP is not suggested, set things yourself.

There is no way a pre-programed set of settings can guess what your particular CPU needs anyway so it's best to do it yourself.

LSD cannot get i7-920 anywhere here seems to me they are all gone. Also found these KHX2000C8D3T1K3/6GX lower timings.

FWLAX I don't have the parts yet but will let you know how I go.

Also I have been told I really should get this CSSD-F60GB2-BRKT at $275 Aus. Well are they worth it for gaming anyway? With my previous system having a 500GB HD 32mb Cache I loaded in as quick as anyone. Or with that money I should get another 5850?

Buy one on ebay, a 920 I mean.

SSD's are great, if you have the cash. Which would be better for you, not sure you will need to look around and see what you think has done best in reviews.

Ok it's DONE. I went with the GA-X58A-UD5 mobo, another ATI 5850 the Nu-U12P SE Cooler, Kingston Hyper X KHX2000C9AD3T1K3/6GX ram. Born at 10:00pm weighing at 22lb and healthy at first post.

Cheers for your time in assisting with the new purchase. Now to post in the Gigabyte forum.

Nice, so the build all went together smoothly?

If so great to hear, always love hearing the sweet sound of new build success!

Thought I would share a pic!

I have removed the rear cooler fan and testing. I believe this is interfering with the airflow.
