New build - Any issues?

Im planning on building a new computer system. Plan on using XP Pro and some gaming. Im not a novice at new builds but will be a novice with overclocking. So, is there any issues with the parts that I have researched?

Couple of things to consider...

1- You are planning on running 4GB of memory and insist on XP Pro (32-bit OS)? May the force be with you. You will need a 64-bit operating system and Vista preferably to run that amount of memory with minimal fuss. It CAN be done sometimes, but it is generall a royal pain to get it running properly.

2- Scrap the AS5. It isn't that good anymore. There is a whole new generation of thermal compounds out that are considerably better than AS5. While others have been making improvements to the TIM market, AS has become stagnant and has not kept up with other products that are better and some even cheaper. Since you seem to like Xigmatek, you can use their goop or any number of others to include Gelid, OCZ Freeze, Arctic Cooling MX-2, or Noctua NT-H1 to name just a few.

3- I haven't kept up with the 4xxx series graphics boards so this isn't a sure thing, but have you checked to make suer the Antec will provide enough juice for that board and the rest of the system? Like I said, it will take a little research on your end since I use a pair of X2900XT boards still, but it is always best to have too much power than not enough.

I would consider Vista 64. But, it still has major issues with driver support etc. I may only start with 2Gb until the time comes to upgrade OSs. Maybe MS will finally fix the issues with their 64 bit products.

Good point on the PS. I may have to go up to 800W.

Vista really isn;t that bad. I have a 64-bit version on this box that I have a triple boot set up for and have no driver issues at all. Unless you are running some strange components, you probably won't have much to worry about. 'Tis up to you in operating system choice but I as well would vote for Vista. Two Vista 64 systems here: One (in sig) is AMD cpu/Asus mobo/nVidia video. Second one is Intel cpu/Asus mobo/ATI video Crossfire configuration. No problems with drivers on either one.

Is there any software issues with Vista 64? Most of what I have isnt that old, but Family Tree maker is about 5 yrs old. I wonder if there is a software compatibility list anywhere. With the new hardware I guess I dont expect an issues.

Im also assuming Vista Home Premium?
