    Re: Scrutinize this build please

I plan on getting a a few parts later on, such as a dvd writer, a second video card, a nice heatsink, and 2gb of memory later on. How does this look? Should I get a Western Digital SE 250gb instead?

    All comments welcome please.

    Thanks!

I'm not up on current configurations, but, were it mine, (and cash flow was a problem at all), I'd find a cheaper case and spend the money on a bit more RAM right away. 256 mb of RAM on a system like the one you are creating is going to make the whole thing a bit dissappointing when you first boot up.
      Antec 900 case (4 120mm and 1 200mm lighted fans + UFO flashing light set + 2 12" and 1 6" Mutant Mods meteor lights) - Aerogate ll thermal controller - Asus M2N-e SLI - AMD 64 X2 AM2 6400+ - Corsair TX650 PSU - MSI 450GTS Cyclone OC - 2 X 2GB Patriot Extreme Performance PC2 6400 RAM - SATA 320 GB Seagate HD, SATA 300GB Maxtor HD and IDE 80 GB Samsung HD - Floppy Drive/Card Reader Combo - LG SuperMulti Lightscribe 18x DVD RW - Plextor PX-716A DVD r/rw - Windows 7 Home Premium 64

Crude but Effective ... it is a way of life.

        Opps!

The memory is a mistake, thinking of this instead:

        OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 2GB 2X1GB DDR400 CL2-3-2-5 184PIN Pin Dual Channel Memory Kit /W Ramsink

        or

OCZ Titanium 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory

          Re: Scrutinize this build please

I would suggest u get a cheaper case and use the difference to try and get a 7800gtx. You will be really grateful if you can do that. I bought a case from NCIX for 80 bucks that included 1 120mm fan and 3 80mm. Check there clearance section and u can pick up some really sweet cases for ridiculously cheap. Also get the platinum ocz ram.

I agree, Lan Li makes some cheaper cases.

Get the platinum, the titanium is more for server type environments.

Do you plan on overclocking much?

              Thanks for responding.

I don't plan on overclocking at all. I do not know how to do it, and am happy just spending a bit more for better performance.

The platinums look good to me too!

                Re: Scrutinize this build please

Why no dvd burner? For about $15 more it would be a much better choice.

I have used both of these.

And why not use raid0 if you want more performance.

How about a pair of these instead:

Max has a point though, get a DVD burner now, its not that much more, and you could save HUGE amounts on that case, There is only one case that I would even consider paying that much for and that is the Coolermaster CM Stacker 830. An Antec P180 would more than likely be better than that case as far as cooling goes, and it looks pretty damn good too. The P180 is is my next case due to its wonderous cooling at low noise levels. WIth that you could save just over $100 and possably use that towards a 7800GT. You can find 7800GT's (here for stock and here for overclocked) from eVGA for about $100 more, on NCIX.

                  Anyways take a look.
