  • xfx 6800 or sapphire x800GTO

I'm currently stuck deciding between a XFX Geforce 6800 with 128MB DDR AGP Card and a SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO with 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 Video Card. I'm leaning more towards buying the x800gto because of the greater ram and is only $20 more. in the other thread i started i was trying to find good cards and was recommended the 6800 and i jsut sort of stumbled over the x800gto card. Which card however is better

The Sapphire X800GTO is the one I would choose. Not only because it is a better card from the start, but the Sapphire and Connect3D X800GTO's are able to be modded to an X850XT so I hear with no soldering. It's apparently a bios mod. In anycase go with the X800GTO.

Unless of course it was the 6800GT you were recomended. If it was then go with that.

I have X800GTO and I love it. I am a ATI fan and always have been. There are nVida fans too that would say they love there cards also. All I can say is that my GTO is the best card I have ever had. With the Trixx overclock tool you have the ability to tweak it to the max. The only thing I don't like about it is the fan, its loud when on Max. I don't care cuz my case is loud too, so it blends right in. One time got a G-Force card and only used it for one day and then sold it! Sapphire and ATI are the ones for me, I will always trust and buy from them. You have to just choose for yourself. Everyone has there own ideas of the best card. I always say, stay with what you are comfortable with. I also have heard that thru a Bios flash that the GTO can be changed from 12 to 16 pipes and from X800 to X850. I have yet to find it or try it. Just stay with the brand that you have had good times with. Good Luck!

With any bias ideas aside...(i was the one to reconmend the 6800 non ultra/gt then can be able to mod to a 16p) Well, if the GTO can be modded to a 16p and it has nice and fast gddr3, then you should go with the GTO.

tweaktown has a artitcle on that. As i read, it says limited edition GTO has the highest success rate.

Re: xfx 6800 or sapphire x800GTO

I am one of the biggest ATI fanboys on the planet. I would not suggest to get the X800GTO over the 6800nu/gt because the Nvidia cards are more future proof. They will run just as fast as the X800 and, IMO, the Nvidia product has a better quality picture. I have an ATI X850 XT PE that is Vmodded and a MSI 6800 GT. The X850 will kill the 6800 in raw power and framerates. The X850 hands down is a faster card. But, the 6800GT uses shader 3 and the X850 uses shader 2. Shader 3 will become the standard in gaming very soon and you will then see an even bigger difference in the quality of the graphics. One thing to remember is that the GTO series cards were created to clear out the old stock of X800/X850 cores. The 6800nu is probably the most underrated card on the market right now and more of those can be unlocked to 16 pipes than the X800 GTO. If possible, just get the GTO2 as its' pipes are much more easy to unlock. The GTO2 has had much more success with modding.

Well lets say that it was a 6800 n/u with 256mb vs a x800gto with 256mb, that would be a hard decision cause they both offer unlocking properties. But its 128 vs 256 so gto would be the better choice.

I missed that part. I still would suggest the 6800nu hands down over any X800/X850 series. You would be happier in the long run spending the extra cash on the 6800nu 256MB.
