  • Upgrade or Stay?

    My current setup is a PNY GeForce 4 128MB Ti4600 4x AGP (300MHz Core, 660MHZ RAM) on a EPoX 4SDA+ Motherboard and a Intel P4 Northwood 2.0a @ 2.625GHz.

I have the following 2 video cards left over from computers I have worked on for other people:
    -ATI Radeon 9200 128MB AGP
-Asylum GeForce FX5200 256MB AGP 280MHz Core, Dual 350MHZ RAMDAC
    ( http://www.bfgtech.com/5200_256.html )

My primary usage is gaming-- I like to play the latest games. I'm wondering if I should stick with my old Ti4600 even though it doesn't support the new DX9 games very well or if I should upgrade to one of the above solutions. What do you think I should do, which video card is best suited for good performance in today's games (UT2004, Hitman: Contracts, Battlefield: Vietnam, Far Cry, etc.)?

DirectX is always important, but with that much performance gap, I'd say stick with the card. Maybe a 9600 Pro or XT to replace it would be good, but not the ones you have listed.

Your Ti4600 is definately the fastest card of the 3.

That ti4600 is better than most cards on the market today, on par with a r9700pro/non pro and is not beaten by many cards at all in most 3d stuff(with the exception of fx5800u,this is the only 128bit card to do this), fx 59xx(non xt series) and r9800pro/xt. When I say most cards, I mean the highend cards of today are a very low % of the whole gfx industry, less than 4-5%.
Oh, by the way, the fx5200 and r9200 are the worst 2 cards on the current market and would render the games you mentioned unplayable.

So basically, if you want any signifigant increase in gfx power for the mentioned games, you would need to get a r9800xt or fx5950u.
