I am goin to use my 60gb 2mb drive and BX32X4 burner to save money at first for the raptors...then on to this memory: CORSAIR TWINX1024-3200LL 1 GB DDR 400MHZ 2X184PIN CAS2-3-2-6 @$372.63. If anyone sees a way to save some money plz let me know. If I wanted to save lots of money I guess I could build an AMD XP...what kinds of parts would you suggest for that?

#1 is what I would build. It will score about 20.5k stock in 3DMark01 as soon as you put it together and should be faster in every single game and application you can throw at it than the P4C.

You could save and go XP but I wouldn't, 64 bit is coming on strong now and I wouldn't invest in old tech. Though, the A64 is not just a 64 bit AXP, its much faster as well at the same clock.

I was just thinking of the AMD XP's cuz it would save me money but you are right it is investing in old tech. I was just wondering what type of mobo and chip you would suggest for the XP's. I was thinking of building a comp for now with an XP then when most of the AMD64 bugs are ironed out in the new socket with dual channel I would buy it. Or would it be worth it to spend the extra money now and get the socket 754 AMD64 and last awhile longer before an upgrade is needed?

There are new boards coming out soon using new chipsets (namely Nforce3 250, supposed to fix the current NF3 problems).

But for AMD XP I would recommend a 2500+ Barton and one of the popular ASUS A7N8X, Abit NF7-S, or DFI Infinity boards.

If it were me I would definetely get A64 but I would wait for the new NF3 250 boards.

Socket-939 boards are supposed to come out in Q2, I'd imagine in may or june (could be wrong though). And I'd like to point something out, unless you are doing heavy file transfering or server work with that comp, raptors in a RAID array is overkill. In games you couldnt even tell the difference between that and a 80GBx2 RAID 0 array of SATA 8MB Cache drives, which would go for ~$160usd ($80 each). Also, all the raptors I've seen go for ~$120 (Newegg ), so that price of $182 seems high. Anyways, some thoughts, : peace2: Mista K6

Yay.. finally.. Listen to the voice of reason. If you're going to RAID, then you don't need Raptors... get some decent storage space instead.

Well if these boards support both sockets your saying I could buy a socket 754 chip for now then when the bugs are worked out of the 939 chips I could then put one of those in and then turn my dual channel on? Do the boards come out before the chips?

No a board is only going to have one socket, either 754 pins or 939 pins.

I'm saying the NF3 250 chipset is being made for both.
