Good choice of board. A few things I would change.

This processor since its cheaper and is the king of AXP overclocking (will reach your 2600 speeds without breaking a sweat). May as well save some money and get a faster CPU at the same time as that is a guaranteed stepping.

Get some good 3200 memory so you can run a 200mhz FSB (maybe 200x10 for starters). I recommend this as its the best 3200 memory you can get and at a very good price as well.

The FX5700 should run Doom 3 fine as Nvidia cards have the advantage in OpenGL vs ATI. However I do recommend getting the Ultra if possible.

With those changes you will have a much faster system for probably not a big difference in price.

So what your saying is Leadtek Winfast A360TDH GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB DDR2 is much better than radion 9700 pro 128mb?

TwinMOS 256MB DDR PC2700 is it really that awful?

No, the 9700 Pro will have better performance then the 5700 Ultra even with DDR2. The 5700u's performance is more on par with the 9600 Pro/XT while the 9700 Pro competes with the 5800 Ultra.

The 9700 Pro is over a year old now and is still not made anymore

The card that competes with the 5700U is the 9600XT.
