Re: Only getting SATA rev2 speeds from SATA rev3 components

Running in ahci mode?and using Intel sata3 ports? Tried disabling usb3 to see if speeds increase? And using latest Intel rst drivers and chipset driver's

Sorry just realised your using a mechanical hdd as aposed to an ssd,you won't see any real improvement with a mechanical hdd from sata2 to sata3,only with an ssd you would see a huge improvement

Re: Only getting SATA rev2 speeds from SATA rev3 components

It uses asynchronous nand memory and will give you lower read/write figures when drives half full, the corsair Gt 60gb uses superior synchronous nand memory where this problem doesn't happen, same for crucial m4 and ocz vertex 3

Re: Only getting SATA rev2 speeds from SATA rev3 components

Check out the links in http://forums.tweaktown.com/storage-...rformance.html to confirm what Wazza said about the inferior performance of ssds that use asynchronous NAND memory. You can't judge an ssd's real world performance just by looking at benchmark scores. Many manufacturer's websites don't always make it clear which type of NAND memory is used in each of their ssd models.

Re: Only getting SATA rev2 speeds from SATA rev3 components

                You're welcome.
If your hard drive partitions were created under win7 they will automatically be 4K aligned for maximum performance.
You can run AS_SSD where it will show you if a partition is 4K aligned.
Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post383199, post #44 for a 4K aligned hard drive benchmark comparison.

This picture shows some results from my P35 sata2 system.
The AS_SSD results are not from my system, but they show how AS_SSD displays information that shows if a partition is or isn't 4K aligned.
The lower left CDM score is from my WD640 Caviar Black hard drive.

Copy and paste the picture into your image viewing program where you can zoom in and read the details.
