Motherboard built-in RAID

This is a stupid question, but I've never worked with RAID arrays before. I'm looking at a motherboard marketed as having a built-in RAID controller supporting 0/1/5/10 arrays. I'm wondering if the controller on there can be used to manage 2 arrays. One RAID 5 array consisting of 4-5 harddrives and one RAID 1 array consisting of 2 harddrives.

Yes. Providing you have enough connectors. That is a pretty standard hardware array setup.
Ideally iif this was a dual channel controller you would cable the mirror on one channel and the raid5 on the 2nd channel
You are much better off on 2 seperate controllers though. Alot more speed too.
Raid controllers are cheap via pci or pcie cards. What motherboard are you talking about? What is the model number?

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P is the brand and model number. Speed is not necessarily my top concern, which is why I opted for the cheaper option of having a built-in raid controller versus a quicker, but more costly card.

Look It has 2 controllers You can seperate them A GREAT DEAL! The Purple ones are JMicron 2 SATAII connectors The Yellow ones are Intel ICH10R with six SATAII connectors

Yes it has an excellent layout for cables cards memory and all. A dual bios. And 2 SATAII controllers onboard.
