Re: Xeon 1231v3 and mobo question
I am using a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H using the f10 mod bios found in the gigabyte forum and it works with all cores at 3.8. I am pretty sure if you look at the Gigabyte section and the mod bios, any of those should do the trick. There may be other manufacturers as well, but, I only use Gigabyte due to using hackintosh, so that's the only brand I've looked in to

What exactly do those mods do

Re: Xeon 1231v3 and mobo question
Well, you can check out the specifics in the gigabyte forum here at TT. There is a whole sticky just for mod bios. I grabbed it specifically for the same reason as your post; to have all 4 cores turbo to 3.8, which the mod takes care of nicely.

Re: Xeon 1231v3 and mobo question
Gday
Ive got an Asrock Z87E-ITX + Kingston HyperX DDR3 RAM (Not L and NOT ECC) + Intel E3-1230v3 CPU
Did you try googling Motherboard Xeon E3-1231v3
Did you check out Asrocks and Asus mobo spec pages ?
Quick 15 second google shows support for H97 or Z97 mobos https://www.google.com.au/search?q=a...Xeon+E3-1231v3
BTW What country are you from ? USA , CA , UK , AU , NZ , JP , PH , etc ???
Do you have a link to your current pc store ?
eg Amazon (USA/CA/UK/DE) , Umart (AU) , etc
The problem is z97 mobos almost disapeared one week after Skylake was released in Australia
We had the Asrock Z97 mobo for AUD$135 and fancy ones for AUD$170-AUD$205
then the i5 goes up slightly
DDR4 was bloody expensive
then Z170 mobos were AUD$185 the cheapest but most were AUD$205-AUD$235
Its only till 1-2 weeks ago that the Z170 asrock and Asus motherboards have FINALLY
been reduced DOWN to AUD$135-AUD$145
Some of the H110/h170 mobo's did support DDR3L RAM (Low voltage) but not normal DDR3 ram
I bought :-
Intel E3-1230v3 for AUD$285 when the i5k was AUD$255 and i7 was AUD$350 and i7k was AUD$385
the E3-1230v3 was the same speed as the i7-4770 at the time (AUD$350)
The Asrock Z87E-ITX was AUD$185
Ive used the same Kingston HyperX stick from Socket 478 to 775 then to my Xeon right , its over 6 years old
and still works . Ive sold systems over the last 10+ years and always recommend Kingston HyperX ram
this ram is ROCK SOLID and never seems to stuff up
This is my custom built PC
